Hi there,
I’ve been working at a small animal hospital since high school and I’ve been wanting to reach out to nearby hospitals that see exotic animals for the experience. Is it possible to work at one and shadow at the other during the same time period (like over the summer)?
I want to get varied experience but continue working at the SA hospital since I’ve been there for a while and love it there.
Any advice is appreciated!

It will probably depend on the hospital you are working at now; whether they are flexible enough with the schedule to allow you time to shadow elsewhere. Other than that, there's usually no problem being in two places at once! I have a few coworkers (fellow assistants) who have second jobs at an emergency clinic. They just have to make sure their schedules don't overlap.
Most clinics will be understanding about you wanting to get varied experience, so I would go for it! Unless there's some kind of rivalry between hospitals it shouldn't be a problem, but since your goal is to see new species I don't imagine that's the case.

Definitely doable, and a good idea. The variety between clinics is surprisingly large. Just make sure you let your boss know what you are planning to do so they can let you know if they have an issue with it.

Also be extremely careful to respect the confidentiality of both clinics, and don’t carry around clinic gossip or stories between them. 🙂 Vet clinics can be gossipy places but it is incredibly unprofessional to get involved with that, especially if you are just a guest in the clinic.
