Hi all!

So I'm thinking I might like to work with "working dogs" eventually: military dogs, sled dogs, aide dogs, hunting dogs, etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of any programs that may be particularly geared towards this area, or if it's something specific you'd have to focus on after getting a degree.

Many thanks!

If you want hand on experience with working dogs while in school, consider Penn... They have a newly opened working dog center, and Dr. Cindy Otto, is highly active in this area. In addition, she does a lot of research on working dogs (stress on the dogs etc, very active post-9/11 research).

Unrelated, the Vet hospital at Penn sees a ton of working dog, especially police dogs.

I am not saying Nyanko is wrong in that it doesn't matter where you get your DVM, you can still be involved, but if you want more hands on stuff while in school, this place is probably either unique or one of few in the country.

Wish I knew about Penn's work back when applying. Very cool. I also have a strong interest in working dogs since I used to train with working dogs and did SAR work with my GSD.

Just to add, something that Dick Vet offers is a intercalated MS degree in Animal behavior if you are interested. I know one girl that went and did her MS behavior research with Belgian military working dogs.
