  1. Dental Student
Hello guys!
Happy winter holidays🙂

Does anyone know if it is possible to have a small part time job while going dental school?
I am going to NYU by the way.
Fotunately, my parents are contributing to my tuition and expenses but I want to contribute as well.
So, what kind of jobs are available for dental school students in NYC?
I am aware that dental curriculum is rigorous enough but I want to know the possibilities.
I want to at least have small job on the side so I can at least contribute couple dollars (not literally 5cents or something though lol..)

Also for Canadian students, did u guys applied for OSAP and received some funding from them? I heard that they give out 9K or something.. Is that true?

Every person I've asked about this (students and practicing dentists) said that it would be near impossible. I'm sure some people do it, but the majority wouldn't be able to, at least during year 1/2.

At Maryland I was told some students work in the gym teaching classes like Zumba and stuff. I'd guess something like that would be one of the only things you'd have time for in D1 or D2

I know someone who tutors for Kaplan on the side. But I would personally not have a job during an already stressful time

I know someone who tutors for Kaplan also. He did it throughout all 4 years of dental school

Thanks for the reply. In my undergrad, we have like work study sort of program so I was wondering whether there is something like it in NYU as well..

I suck at gym and dancing so I guess I have no other option lol..

See if your school offers tutoring positions. I would advise against working before you take NBDE 1 but after that I don't see why not.

Thanks! I will look into that🙂

The only people who work in my class do so during the holiday season to make some extra money over break or are doing it to establish in state residency. It's awesome that you want to contribute but honestly one of the best things you can do is focus on doing really well and learning all you can so you don't have to retake the boards which is priceyyyyyy. A few extra dollars in the long run won't make a dent in the way those hours spent studying/sleeping will for your sanity

I would consider studying and getting your degree to be your contribution to your education. Take the extra 10 hours or so that you might be able to work and put that toward refining your skills. That will pay much more in the long run than working a couple shifts at a store somewhere.

Thanks for your suggestion🙂
