Will a med program look upon me as a lesser applicant if i'm currently working on my masters? What I mean is; will they take someone into their program if that particular person is in the middle of another program?

Will you finish your degree by the time you matriculate?

Hi there,
Most medical schools will not consider a person for admission until you are done with your graduate program. You can apply for admission while you are in the program but you are likely going to have to produce documentation from your program director (or research advisor) that you will be able to finish the program before matriculation in medical school.

Thank you bunches!

When would you most likely have to produce this letter? Will they invite you for an interview first and then ask for a letter from your advisor?

I will complete my program before I would start med school, but I'm wondering if a letter from my advisor confirming this should have been included in my LOR packet.

I pretty much just finished my master's degree 2-3days before I started med school. The school will require some documentation during the application process. I had to provide documents from grad school as well as from my graduate advisor and the department that I was going to recieve my master's degree before med school started. Even when I got to school when I had been accepted, the med school administration was asking for my final transcripts, which I was able to request from my previous school on the very day that my degree was posted. Most med schools will not consider your application complete if you haven't provide proof of your eventual degree stating that you will recieve it before med school starts. So, I suggest that if the OP is in the middle of the program, to either wait until a year before your intended graduation or be prepared to send in documentation from your graduate advisor as well as the grad school stating when you are expecting to graduate (which should be during the application cycle/before med school starts).

Good luck!
