I am kinda worried about my medical school financial aid. I have filled out the FASFA and listed the possible schools but what's next? Am I suppose to wait for the schools to contact me or am I missing something else to do? When do I get lender info etc? I am just worried because aside from getting into the med school, financial aid is pretty important. thanks

Did you already decided on a school? Schools have thier own finacial aid applications also. You usually recieve them the school directly or asked to download them from there website.

You have to fill out a financial aid application for the school as well? Is it as long as the FAFSA?

Depends on the school, but it's usually short. They have a list of lenders etc on there. Once they get that info they will send you financial aid package with scholarships (if u get em), stafford loans, etc, and possible lenders for private lenders.

It also lists how much you are eligible for (housing+tuition).

I think the individual school form is very basic (I know it is at DMU). Basically you just click the button that says to certify you for maximum allowed Stafford Loans & you are done.

If you decide you want less money later on, you can decrease your payment at anytime before disbursement dates. I couldn't give you any info on supplemental loan b/c I don't have any **Thanks God**

LECOM's form was also very basic, just signing something basically saying you want aid. Then they send the financial aid "award" and we have the right to accept, reduce or deny it. At the time you do that there is an email link that directs to the page where you fill out paperwork from the lenders.

If you have already selected a school, contact their fin. aid office and find out what the deal is, it is really a less intimidating process than it at first seems.🙂

So I just filled out my FAFSA and submitted it. On my confirmation page it says my EFC is: 0.

Now I am worried I did something wrong. My parents make a nice amount of money...so shouldn't it not be 0??? Help! 😱

for med school, your parents income is not a factor when calculating the EFC

Very good to know that most of the schools' financial aid packets aren't long. I don't like long paperwork, who does?

It's not an application. It's just a form detailing what you have been awarded and whether you want to accept the award or not.

Yeah...after undergrad you are technically "on your own", so if you get help from you parents that is a super bonus...me on the other hand will have to pay my 170K debt on my own🙁...according to the loan calculator it is 1700 a month if i want to pay off in ten years...ahh!!!!

Wow, I have $2000 to my name right now and I'm still expected to contribute.

Can I add a school to my FAFSA if I am on the waitlist??

I could be wrong but isn't "0" for EFC good? I thought the lower the EFC was the better off you would be for Financial Aid?

Right it is. But I was worried that I did something wrong since I entered my parents information in (since I'm not 100% sure where I'm going, and some schools want parental info), and they make a good amount of money, and it said 0. That was before I found out that your parents information doesn't affect the EFC, AND if I filed a 1040EZ last year its automatically a 0, according to someone on SDN.
