Worst allopathic or best osteopathic?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Worst allopathic = Caribbean, so I choose DO

worst allopathic everyday. Especially since there really is no worst allopathic. Any US MD school will get you into your desired residency assuming that you are willing to work hard for it. DO will limit you.

Are we talking worst US MD, or Caribbean as well? Because they're separate categories.

This is correct, though how much it will limit you is debatable.

I think OP means continental US school.

I think the best Osteopathic school might actually have better admission stats than the worst Allopathic school. If not, I know they are getting closer and closer. Personally, I think they should just unify and become one entity, all offering MD. It would be good for the DO schools because more people would apply.

I will take the bait!

As a 2nd year DO student at a "top 3" (meaning one of the common schools people say are the best).....

The worst MD school

To keep it short: 1) AOA residencies are a joke 2) Im not interested in primary care (as I was before med school) and getting a non-primary care ACGME residency as a DO is unnecessarily difficult compared to MD students

I am highly skeptical about you. If you're a second year at a DO school than why are you in the post bacc forum asking about getting into the temple SMP? do explain.

"Hey guys,

Im a little late to join the party, but had a few questions.

Do you have to retake the MCAT if you already have a score? What is the oldest MCAT they will take? I couldnt find this information on their website?

I got a 30R (12,8,10) in June 2009 but im not sure if they will accept it?

Thanks

Also there hasnt been much movement in this thread, did you guys all get accepted?"

Now why would you be asking questions like these if you're in DO school currently as a second year? Lol. Seriously, i think 50% of the med school students on here are fake trolls.

and saying you are at a top 3 program, and then talking so heavily about Western, i doubt you know what a top 3 program is. I have never seen Western on a large number of top 10 lists.

as a first year at a the second DO school in the nation, I am certain that DMU's alumni network is huge, it is a very respected DO school and a ton of people go into ACGME residencies. That being said, DMU is in Iowa which is in a VERY DO accepting region of the nation, and I am a father and Des Moines native. So my opinion is biased. But i would chose DO.

Snob or no, there disadvantages with going DO. If location is more important to you than those disadvantages then more power to you, but that doesn't reflect negatively on people who don't feel the same :/

Do you realize there are non primary care AOA residencies?

We were referring to "docnotsopc". Hes a "med school student at a top 3 program (DO)" who also is apparently applying to the temple smp. so either hes full of **** or he has decided to get his masters and work on med school at the same time. Also hes in a "top 3" then acts as if he goes to western which I would not consider western top 3 either..

When I saw his post I was already skeptical. sounded pretty trollish.

What are its stats? I can think of a couple schools with stats I bet are lower than higher DO schools

:smack:

Haha there is no Alaskan med school.

There are only maybe a couple medical schools that I think MIGHT have lower stats than the best DO schools. Howard and Meharry.

Couple state schools have average MCATs of 29, but I doubt a DO school has higher.

Lol gotcha. I don't keep tabs on Alaska 😉

Busted.....

And yes, if you choose to do an AOA residency you will not be considered a doctor. As indicated by "docnotsopc," they were created as kind of a joke. Every AOA board certified physician just hasn't gotten it yet; I personally can't wait for the lulz. I thought this was common knowledge.

Basically, do not go DO unless you want to fall into a sort of limbo between a nurse and physician assistant.

Pretty big difference from the PNW vs Alaska. Especially winters...

Yeah, that's probably true. And they could never get enough faculty up there to actually run a school lol

There's always $$$. That's how the Carribs do. Well that and the location doesn't quite hurt. Paid vacation for a couple lectures.

completely irrevelant, but I've never heard of Western being considered "top 3"

also, inb4 one of these two threads gets closed (other one is in pre-allo)

Pay for a couple days of outback snowmobiling and a few heli runs on my snowboard and I'd teach a week of school up there each year!

New Question:

Princeton or SGU School of Medicine?

It would depend on:

1) Location
2) Price

If they were same price and same location I'd go MD.

haha hes not even western. maybe western high school if thats what he meant.

Not even that. Where would they find the patients? I heard there are more Eskimo words for snow than the entire population of Alaska.

I'm an M.D. student, and I would pick the best osteopathic school if I didn't have to do OMM.

A lot of these DO schools are really good schools, I just did not have any interest at all in doing OMM.

nah he's a 2nd year who was considering reapplying to MD schools after his first year at western because he doesn't want to go into primary care

it's kinda sad actually.

There are almost 300,000 people in Anchorage and over 700,000 total. I think they would have enough patients... Maybe.
