I played Tekken 4 a lot. Of course I liked the girls, especially Christie, except her character was unfair b/c she could almost always win.. and Hwoarang, that hottie.

Hwoarang has some crazy combos. He was even better in 3. And I agree with you about Christie. She's just too cheap.

I can pull a few tricks w/ Nina too. Got her to do this crazy combo once and wasn't able to replicate it again. 😡

I definitely still have my Super NES, and was able to pick up Street Fighter 2 in good condition at a flea market a while back. Exciting, that's still my favorite game system of all time I guess 🙂

I'm going to try and pump some life into the original topic..

Interview in a nutshell:
I: why dentistry? it is a horrible profession. medicine is so much better.
[continues to grill me in a similar fashion]
I: did you know that dentists have the highest suicide rate?
Me: I have heard of that, but it's just a rumor.
I: no, it is true.
M: no... really?
I: yes. Really. Dentistry is gruesome and unsatisfying.
M: dentistry has many attractive qualities, but there are bound to be people who find it it unsatisfying. Maybe they spend all their time cooped up in their office, seeing patients all day, and do not participate in more activities.
I: no, that's not it. Dentists are very unhappy in general. It is not worth the time or money.
M: well I think the unhappy ones should try and remember why they wanted to go into the profession in the first place, and indulge in those interests.
I: but they still have to go back to work every day. The work they have to do is too hard.
M: if they still find it unsatisfying, then these dentists probably went into the profession for the wrong reasons..
-SILENCE-
[thoughts running through my head: did I just insult the dental profession? aww crapppp..]
I: ok that's all the questions I have for you. I won't torture you anymore. [she gets up and walks me to the door]

I had no idea what interviewer was thinking the whole time, but I basically gave up hope after the interview. I found out that I was accepted on Nov. 30 🙂

Sounds like she was playing the bad guy. Maybe the interviewer was trying to see if you can keep your cool under pressure? Awesome job, by the way!

hey jigabodo- I remember reading somewhere that you said you were Canadian... am I mistaken?

Sounds like they just wanted to see how you reacted by playing devil's advocate. God I hate those type of situations you walk out of there thinking you blew it.😡

I am an international student just like Canadians. But my nationality is Taiwan.

It's an invasion on two fronts. Canadians from the north and mexicans from the south.:scared:😀

Sounds like they wanted to hear your interest in the profession as an individual, instead of the standard fellating of the profession that they hear from everyone else.

Arranged marriages are more or less obsolete now, it seems. 😛
I haven't heard of one in quite some time, even in Pakistan. I guess thats good. I've never been in favor of them.

When was the last time you heard some thing from Pakistan🙂. 99% of the marriages in Pakistan are still arranged. Its good to know some one before marriage but that doesnt mean that it will workout fine in future..... stay cool dude, listen to your mom and meet the girl she is reffering to. If your parents respect your choice then they are puting more resposibility on you.

It's like that in Burma too!

Well at least it isn't this.
You definitely don't want to tell people who engage in this that you want to pick up chicks.:scared:

I think you didn't read any of my follow-up messages. Anyhow, yes, many marriages in Pakistan are arranged, but the general consensus nowadays is that people end up finding someone by themselves. I don't see any problem in doing so. The last time I "heard something from Pakistan" was in September 2007, and I go back home every summer for 3 months.🙂 So, I get to see everything that happens in Pakistan, and what I say isn't just anecdotal. Out of the 12 shadis that I have attended, only 2 were of the typical arranged sort. I suppose it depends on the type of society one lives in, and the type of people one knows. Arranged marriages are perfectly fine, and so are un-arranged ones. It's a gamble both ways. I, personally, am more in favor of the later one.

And as far as meeting a girl that my mom "is referring to" is concerned, there is none. I don't think I am ready for anything right now. Gosh, I'm only 22.😛

i totally agree.. some marriages in paki now maybe start with parents introducing the couple but thats it...and most marriages are not arranged at all..there are like 1 in ten that are the full on arranged marriages, and 1 in 100 in which the couple doesnt even talk before getting married

I wish that I could get an interview...
I applied to 20 schools but didn't hear anything yet.

Hey man,

Just hang in there. Some schools still have spots open, particularly NYU and BU. Best of luck!
