Worst part of your application experience?

Getting transcripts for several reasons
1. I had took classes through 3 schools
2. My school decided they wasn't going to send it right away-moral of the story ask for them EARLY 🙂
 
For me the most difficult part was after getting an interview invite and waiting for the actual interview date. (the time in between)

Second, is waiting for the "final" decision from a school that I've been waitlisted for.

Both of them have to do with not knowing what to expect.

The month-long wait to receive the final admissions result from UCSF. I felt I was on an emotional roller coaster ride.
 
The ten month wait for the final admission decision.... I applied in June for early admission, and found out April 8th!
 
1. Getting LORs- I graduated over a year ago so it was difficult to find one from a professor
2. Waiting a month for an admission decision-Enough said
 
One of my LOR's came from a professor I had 8 years ago! Thank goodness he remembered me!
 
Finding out that acceptance letters were mailed yesterday and waiting for the mail to come each day from here until 😕

Interviews... so damn stressful for me to have everything I've done up to this point riding on 30 minutes of interaction... some went well and some parts I'd like to forget. hopefully I get in somewhere.
 
The interview... and stressing about all the things I should/shouldn't have said during the interview afterwards!
 
Waiting-

1. Waiting for schools to receive transcripts
2. Waiting lists and waiting to hear either way


It seems as though all the process boils down to is a waiting game!
 
The worst part was being made to wait by a certain school for 60 days after my interview for an answer, which was a rejection because they look at diversity and hardship more than academic merit. Said school has had something like 10 people fail their P1 year (for this school year) and is dumbing down the program to let less qualified applicants pass their program. Said school gets a high rating from a certain magazine because their MS and PhD pharmacy programs get a crapload of money for research. Said school also lets certain students in with zero pharmacy experience while telling other students that they need more pharmacy experience.

Yes, I'm bitter, but I speak the truth. A professional program should not have such a high level of failure. They obviously aren't doing a good job of picking successful students even though they have plenty of tools to do so. What a waste of tax dollars 👎

Yes, you are bitter.:meanie: But if this school *wink* has a double standard in admissions, it's just a lawsuit waiting to happen.

For me, the worst part of applying was coming up with a decent personal statement. A lot of what I wrote in the beginning was crap. It also didn't help that I submitted my application two days before the deadline at one of the schools I was applying to.

Nobody would dare sue them because they couldn't possibly afford to beat UT's Law School. Actually, UT was in court for several years in the 1990s for unfair admissions practices. Eventually they quit appealing and had to pay millions (legal fees) to the people who sued. Unfortunately, a different court decision mooted the whole thing and gave UT a license to do as they please 😡
 
Doing the personal statement and supplemental essays. I really hate writing. Then the traveling sucked also especially when I got stuck for an extra day because it snowed in Dallas and I was supposed to fly through there. And getting lost in a new place is scary too!
 
The worst part of my application process was because I am the biggest procrastinator ever. 🙁
 
1. Not being able to plan for the future because I'm still waiting to hear back.
2. Wasting money on two schools to simply end up withdrawing my application.

Yes, and I look forward to moving to another state so that my tax dollars don't go to their crap.

I agree... I only applied to a couple schools because I want to stay close to home and I'm willing to take a year off to do that, but I got an interview and now I'm waiting for the decision. I feel like I'm at the point where I'll be fine either way... I just want to make my plans! I want to figure out where I'm living and if I need to find another job! (My boss is already asking me when my last day will be.. geez.. let me get in before you replace me, please.)

Otherwise I think the worst part was LORs. I hated asking my professor for a letter, and then when I decided to apply to a different school that didn't take LORs from PharmCAS, I had to ask both my references to fill out another form. I know everybody has to do it and the professors mostly understand but I despised it and it's the thing I'm least looking forward to if I have to go through another cycle.

Waiting to find out if I got an interview at the only school I applied to! I applied in October and my interview is Friday 🙂 Worst part, but definitely worth it 😀 One thing that I've learned about the admissions process is that even though schools put out their "requirements" such as desired PCAT scores, GPA, etc... there are certain intangibles that they are looking for that make some applicants seem better suited for their program than others. Although it may seem at first glance that "deserving" students get rejected while "less-deserving" students get accepted ... keep in mind - success is defined by more than just PCAT and GPA. Hopefully, the adcom at the various schools are experienced therefore skilled at spotting students that would be best for their particular program. And even if they don't - God always knows what He's doing. My advice : don't waste time feeling bitter about not getting accepted to whatever school. Instead thank God that He saw what you couldn't see and saved you from a disappointing or painful experience. Just a thought ...

For me, without a doubt, it was the interview itself that was the most stressful...I was kind of afraid because I had no pharmacy experience, although I had a lot of research experience which made up the difference.
 
The Wait. Was so relieved when I received my first acceptance letter.

Wow, that's just crazy! I couldn't even imagine waiting THAT long. UB could possibly have some of the shortest waits ever...I interviewed Feb 29th and was accepted March 5th. I had to wait 5 whole days! :meanie:
 
questions... and no I do not mean interview questions, I mean the questions from friends and family members such as "Have you heard anything from Uw yet?" and "When are you going to hear anything?" I know they were just interested and wanted to support me, but it was really annoying to hear the same questions everyday.
 
Just waiting....waiting to hear back from schools on whether I got interviews or whether I got in. >_<

I'm still waiting, and it doesn't help that time is going by so slow for me. 👎

Wow knick... you really need to let it go. All you're doing is insulting the current pharm students at UT and all the students that got accepted this year. Money is not the sole reason that UT is #2... there's universities that get way more than UT that are further down the list. As for students dropping out, you can't draw any conclusions from that without knowing the reasons why they dropped out. As for the naplex passing rate... it's not like it's insanely bad. It does bother me a little that UT is so far down the list but I'm sure the content that they are teaching is fine. UT is still a great school no matter what you say.

Worst part of my application experience was opening up on SDN about my dream/rejection and then have people PM me and tell me that I am the biggest loser and I can't even possibly compare to all their great achievements/accomplishements.
 
I sure hope that I get in to any of the schools that I applied to this year, so I won't have to go through the hassles of getting LORs and rewriting my personal statements again! Also, the waiting process is the toughest part for me right now. I'm on the alternate list for one school and am still waiting for a letter after the interview for another school (which should be out sometimes this weekend or next week).

Writing the personal statemend and keeping it to the word limit... I had way too much to say. It took me two months to write it... I completely rewrote it 5 times!!!!

And flying to one of my interviews... I am a frightened flier!
 
1. Taking organic chem I as a summer class to help prepare me for the PCAT - I swear that classs took a few years of my life expectancy off because of the stress.
2. Taking out that credit card for tuition, books, PCAT, application fees...
3. Writing the personal statement - I procrastinated on that until a few days before deadline. I'm a decent writer, but these things are hard to start.

Luckily I didn't have to interview, or that would have been the worst part. Or actually suit shopping would have been the hardest part. I hate shopping for suits!

Best part:
1. Reading an email that started "Congratulations!" from my #1 school
2. Getting my PCAT scores the second time and crying from happiness over the improvement
3. Drinking lots the night after I took the PCAT
 
Worst part = trying to figure out how to compact 10 years of different experiences and personal growth into a single interview, let alone a 400-word essay.

C'mon, Knick, you seem royally pissed--aren't you happy about getting into A&M?
 
Well I haven't had any application experience here in US yet,but back in my country the worst part of the application process was to find out that I didn't get accepted because my scores were 5 points lower than acceptance score...I still remember how depressed I was.

Yeah...:laugh:I am thinking about it.Too bad it will loose the actual sense in PS but probably gonna give me green light to pharm school. Hehehe

Nah, I wrote about how I starved for days at a time because we were soo poor and how my Russian school had chemistry textbooks from 1960s in my UCSF supplemental application, didn't seem to impress them.🙁

Yeah I was kidding though...My school had textbooks mostly from the 80s but history (the crappiest textbook ever) and geography textbooks we rewritten in 90 and later times. Note to self: Write about something else when the time for PS writing comes.
