worth it to apply to UNC chapel hill out of state?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you're from NC, it's not that hard to get in. If you're from OOS, you have to have a very well-rounded application with solid scores. GPA definitely better than a 3.6, and DAT probably 20+/20+/20+

I personally interviewed there and left the interview early b/c I was turned off by the culture and arrogance. Excellent school and facilities, and it's dirt cheap relative to the national average. But I personally hated it.

The chances of getting in instate are roughly 1:3~4 applicants. For out of state... that number shoots up to around 1:82 applicants. Just thought some stats would help!

I wanted to do the same thing, but with the numbers I decided to take UNC out of the bag.

the web page says they accept 20% oos which is like 12-15 seats i think. Im a CT resident and it's one of my top choices so it sucks that my chances are so much lower. Any info on competitive oos stats?

Yeah it is very tough as an out of state applicant. I'm in-state so I'm not super familiar with the OOS stats, but I'd guess you'd need somewhere in the ~3.7 and 22 AA range to have a legitimate shot. UNC really puts a lot of emphasis on the interview though, so the key is having good enough stats to land that interview, and then doing whatever necessary to make an impact on your interviewers.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Although I hate to say it about my school, when it comes to the dental school I can see where you would get that feeling. There are a select few administrators as well as a couple professors who are a little high on themselves and the school, and unfortunately many of these are in prominent positions when it comes to admissions. Overall though I'd say the student body and faculty are really great folks. I've worked there for over a year now and I'd say 100% of the student body and 95% of the faculty which I've come into contact with have been great to work with.
