Hey Guys, would appreciate some advice.

I'm in my transitional year, so basically haven't really studied at all this year! I started studying for step 3 last week, and one more week until the real thing.

Although I started in the high 50's to occasional 60's on USMLEworld, I've been crapping out at the high 40's this week! I've done about 2/3 of the questions, but problem is most of the time I'm below the USMLEworld average.

I've read only 1/3 of Crush, and I plan on doing all the cases on the practice CD and hopefully some of the USMLEworld CCS.

Honestly, with just a week left, is it worth taking? I just want to pass it! :scared:

CCS won't be a problem for u as u are presently working as a resident.
Why do not u try First Aid/Master the Boards along with Crush step-3?I think that will help increase the score.

Problem is I'm barely reading Crush with the time as it is. Spending most of my time doing questions...

Wow, your story sound almost exactly like mine....scores and every thing. I have 6 more days to study and I haven't even touched the CCS practice questions on USMLEworld. I am wondering if I should postpone.

I am wondering if I could still at least past with an overall average of 50% on USMLEworld. This is a tough decision. They say you need at least a 60% to pass but I have been studying in my spare time for about 3 weeks now. There is really not enough time to read Crush.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have read Crush first but I have been mainly studying by just doing USMLEworld qbank and reading the answers thoroughly. I need some advice!

Well I'm glad we can revel in our dilemma together 😀

But I haven't heard about the 60% thing, otherwise I'm screwed. I just wanna pass at this point.

Take the NBME self assessment and if you get a passing three digit score, just go for it...also do the practice clinical cases that USMLE puts out for free online

In Part true. Most cases I have heard of tend to pass the Step 3 with a previous passing score attempt while taking the NBME assessment exam. They say a 380 or higher and you will pass. I know someone who recently took the Step 3 and maybe it was bad luck that day or something else but this student scored a 420 on the NBME and got a 175 on the actual step 3 exam while doing borderline average on the CCS portion. Just be careful when assessing your readiness thats all. :caution: :xf:

I decided that I am tired of studying for this thing and am reluctant to put more time into my study schedule. I am going to take the damn test and get on with my life. I got some books and video games to crack open.

You don't need a 60% to pass, low 50's I think is enough. As far as CCS portion, it counts for 25% of your score and it only takes ~2 days to get through all practice cases. If you do them all, the real thing will be cake.

Well, I went ahead and took that NBME test and got a 450.

Where's that place me?

I think it(CCS) is 20% of the total score and 25% in terms of exam time.

Agreed, Winner. It's often misquoted as worth 25% (though it's also often noted that the exam folks want to increase that amount a whole lot). But at the end of the day, does it truly, truly matter?

A 450 should be more than fine to pass this exam. Remember there are no guarantees, but that score you have gives you a very high likelihood of doing just fine. Wish you the best 🙂 Good Luck and let us know how it went. :xf:

Thanks for the advice for taking the NBME. I feel a bit more confident and with a few days left, I'm just practicing the CCS, which btw, is very weird. It's got this old school DOS medical game feeling to it. 😀

Yeah, I spent the whole weekend with it but it was kind of fun. I only have a few more cases to do on it then I am finished. I hate that I still have 30% left to do on the Qbank though. I won't be finishing those considering that the exam is only two days away.

Just went through day one. Man, it's just long and boring. I think I did alright. Some questions were stupid easy, some were the vaguest I've seen.

Now, I skipped the tutorial, but it said I had to answer 8 questions. Lol, was I supposed to? Oh well.

Anyways, finished the fraking exam.

The CCS sections are kinda annoying. I mean, I made one mistake with the appointment follow up and it wouldn't let me stop, then the case was over. stupid.

And I forgot one diagnosis.

I think I got 7/9 of the CCS cases for sure.

Also, I didn't know this, but day one, the sections are 48 questions. On day 2, the four question section are 36 questions.

Oh well, i hope i passed. Wonder how it would look in my rads residency if I bombed step 3... 🙄
