Hey ya'll, I've been applying for lab tech jobs since MAY! No matter how this cycle ends up I'm gonna be in some sort of school in approximately 6 months (Med School or SMP). Is it even worth applying for these types of jobs if I'm only planning on being there for 6-7 months? I've also been applying to non lab tech jobs and am having somehow worse luck with those lol.

By lab tech do you mean medical Laboratory technician? Because, if so and if this is your first MLT/MLS position, please don’t even bother. It will take you at least 2 months to become competent in just one bench and another month for each bench after that.

This coming from a MLT of 6 years, lab manager of 2.

If by lab tech you mean being a technician in a wet lab - definitely not worth it. Most places require a 2 year commitment anyways.... probably why you haven't had any luck if you included in your application that you would be going to school in under a year.

OP, its not worth it. For anyone else, if you want a lab tech position for a gap year you really need to start applying in December of you senior year. If you want a lab internship, you probably need to start even earlier.

Not MLT, just basic wet lab stuff, but yeah I was thinking I was wasting my time still looking for these types of positions. Ah well, Starbucks is always hiring right?

Get a job waiting tables. I made around 30-35$/hr (with tips included). I only had to work like 20 hrs a week while I was studying for the MCAT to have enough money to pay for rent and all bills + a little bit of extra for eating out and stuff.
