I had a medical issue (had to go to the emergency room - corneal ulcer, recovery was like 4-5 weeks, could barely see out the eye for the first 3 weeks, computer screens hurt to look at, etc..), and withdrew from my online summer sociology class this past summer.

I'm applying to DO programs in the 2016-2017 cycle and I'm curious if I really need to re-take sociology this spring or next summer, so that I don't have that W on my transcript especially since it is surrounded by A's and A-'s from my DIY-Post-bac classes. I was planning on just teaching myself sociology instead, so I don't have to pay the extra 500 bucks for another sociology class & because, I need to start studying for the MCAT in Jan/Feb of 2016. I also just dished out 1300 for the UNECOM Biochemistry class that I'm starting next week - that ends at the end of January. I don't want to overload myself with work with Biochem, sociology, and MCAT studying, but if that W is going to look bad then I definitely will.

Other option is to take it over the summer, after applications have been submitted & just put in an update.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if the class isn't a required course. I had a W on my transcript (in a science class, mind you) and no one ever asked me about it in an interview.

Well, I have a total of probably 5 W's :/ None of my pre-reqs.

Wouldn't worry if I were you! Maybe just find it at a local CC that has sociology...would be a lot cheaper than 500 bucks.

that is my local CC. New York state. lol... However, I live in Oregon now...won't qualify for residency until next autumn though. (might be cheaper here)
