Hey all,

So I know we are still trying to determine what the effects of COVID will be on the admissions process, and that there are more important things to worry about for many people at this point and time, but as a non-trad who has completed all of my pre-reqs, I was looking at continuing some GPA repair to try and bring my cGPA from a 3.36 to a ~3.42+ by the time I apply next year. My AMCAS sGPA is a 3.56, but I planned on taking all upper level bio courses to help bring this up as well.

Luckily, I have an upward trend: 2.67GPA in both Freshman and Sophmore years at a community college, 3.1 in my Junior year, 3.56 in Senior year at a state university. My post-bacc has been great, with a 3.95 GPA over 81 credit hours, but I have done it all a community college as a non-trad and I'm worried that my post-bacc doesn't look as good because I've only taken a few upper level bio courses - Genetics, Microbiology, Biochemistry I and II.

I was looking at possibly continuing my post-bacc at the nearest state college. It is a 1-2 hour commute each way, and I couldn't swing it with my previous job, but my schedule has changed which allowed me to consider it. Unfortunately, classes are all online in Florida for the foreseeable future.

I know these are uncharted waters, but I'm hoping Adcoms have had time to discuss these types of issues. My question is: With the traditional stigma against online classes, I was wondering if the adcoms here thought there would be much point in trying to continue repairing my GPA if classes are online?

Just a pre-med like you, but I'm not sure if the ~0.06 GPA increase is going to be worth it compared to other things you could be doing. How is the rest of your app looking? I would probably work on other aspects of my application like volunteering or working in a healthcare environment or if you plan on taking the MCAT soon, studying for that.

If you really want to increase your GPA, I wouldn't be too worried about the online class stigma since basically everyone has to take online classes. Also, a lot of schools are accepting online pre reqs and I saw on MSAR some are even accepting P/F pre-reqs.

I agree with the previous poster, ADCOM’s aren’t going to care if you go from a 3.36 to a 3.42. They will take your earlier GPA’s into consideration but your most recent performance (3.95 in 81 credit hours for your post bacc) will carry much more weight. Your time should be focused on crushing the MCAT, acquiring shadowing and volunteering hours And dabbling in some research.

I don’t think ADCOM’s will hold it against you if you take those courses online, considering the entirety of your post-bacc has been at the community college And the ongoing pandemic. If you must continue taking courses, just focus on crushing it like you have been.

Will it show up that the classes were online? ‘Cause in my school the classes online has the same name as if you took it in person

It’s a good time to buff up those gpa if you can take online classes.
