My major is general studies. It was the only major at my school that would allow me to take all of the classes I was interested in, as well as the required courses to apply for medical school. Would an adcom look down upon a major in general studies? I also just found out about IUPUI's Pre-Professional Non-Thesis Master of Science 1 year program. What are my chances of getting in to med school with a general studies major if I also complete this one year program? I've seen some people post about being a general studies major, but nothing about taking this one year program afterward. Thanks in advance.

You major doesn't matter. High GPA and high MCAT= acceptance no matter what your major is.

Do something you're interested in so that it's easier for you to be more involved in your classes and your learning, which will make achieving a higher GPA much easier.

Do what interests you. If I could go back in time, I would have picked Psychology because I wanted more freedom to take other classes outside my major.

In general, your major is not important. The prerequisite courses are important. GPA and MCAT are important. ECs are important.

The list of things that will Actually Kill Your Chances is pretty short:
-Academic dishonesty
-DUIs
-Other serious crimes
-A 2.5 GPA (and this one isn't even a 100% guarantee, a few people have gotten in with a 2.5)
-A sub-20 MCAT
-Being a big jerk with a toxic personality

No one cares what you major in. GPA and MCAT are the biggest deals, followed by EC's, volunteer work, shadowing, research, LoRs, and an overall impressive load of work.

No Doug. (My attempt at being clever).

DUI with 5+ year seperation between time of application? Still lethal? Lethal for top tiers?

Not an issue whatsoever.

But just out of curiosity, what do you learn/study in a "General Studies" major? A little bit of...everything?
