Hey guys I'm a freshman in queens college and today I just thought about opening up a youtube channel and start putting videos up of me singing. Let's just say I'm a decent singer, would the Medical School I am trying to get into care that I am on youtube? Would they look down upon it, or would they consider that something that makes me unique and something that stands out? Opening up a youtube account is just a thought, what do you guys think?

And of course, if I'm getting a plethora of harsh comments or if friends start telling me I can't sing, I'll definitely NOT bring up my youtube channel in any med school interview or anything or the sort. I'm guessing the panel of interviewers will definitely ask me "What do you like to do" or "what make you different" etc.

Thank you guys for your time.

It depends how easy it is to find through google and what you say/sing/do on it IMO. Whether you can sing or not is not going to be a make or break on your application, but if you put things on the channel that make you look immature and petty it could. If you have an obscure youtube username and don't write your name all over the channel I can't imagine med school admins going interweb haxing to find more info on you.

thanks for the reply^

I was just going to put me singing. As for the name, I was just going to keep it simple like Neil Saha. Maybe put my desi name "Shubha". ShubhaNeilSaha. Thanks for the heads up.

Just be careful. I would make up a name and stick to it. Good luck! 🙂

I want to hear you sing!

I don't think it should affect anything, especially if you go anonymous like most people do on youtube.

We all know 'singing' is code for 'foot-crushing fetish'. Per statistics, you have a 99% that the adcom would react adversely. However, if you luck out, you two could have quite the conversation! I say go for it.

thanks guys! i'll open up the channel pretty soon 🙂

I've heard of people putting youtube links to performance videos in their AMCAS application. It sounds like an awesome idea, actually. If it's appropriate and not offensive, you could think about using it for your application, instead of worrying if it will hurt you 🙂

Make sure you disable comments for your videos 😉 People are insane....

What do you mean? Comments are half the fun when it comes to YouTube videos! 😉

...and I don't see how other peoples' comments would hurt the OP's reputation.

I was just thinking the same thing..lol I think I need the comments section to be enabled so I can get feedback?

haha not yetttt first I have to open up the account and channel first lol but it was just an idea because I went to some party yesterday, started singing, and people started saying I can sing really well. so it was just an idea of mine

I'll second the comment that you'll be fine as long as whatever you're singing is appropriate. The thing that you should realize is that each school has thousands upon thousands of applicants and usually a 5-10 person admissions office (plus the admissions committee) to deal with all of them. There's just no way that they would be able to find out about something like a youtube channel, unless you (or someone else) told them about it.
