Hey all....have a quick question for you let me know what you think

I have borderline GPA...
overall GPA: 3.36
science GPA: 3.2
Biology major
applying for 2006 round
and planning to send in All my application stuff (transcripts, LORs,etc.) by middle of May but decided to take the DAT in beginning of August just because I want to study long enough....
DO you think THAT'S late....I mean my DAT timing and would I be at a disadvantage if I take it that late, especially with my horrible GPAs 😕

by the way I am applying to BU, NYU, Tufts, Howard, Temple,....and many others
please advice thanks alot

august might be a little late, but really not too bad if you get all your other stuff in early. i'd aim for the middle of july, but it really isn't the end of the world. sometimes i think the importance of applying early is overstated. don't get me wrong, it is definitely better to apply june 1 rather than november 1, but basically nobody gets accepted or rejected until december 1, so as long as you interview before, say, 10 days before this "deadline" i can't imagine you would be at a significant disadavantage.

in your spot, i definitely think you should sacrifice a little time to try to earn a 21+ DAT to help that average GPA

I agree that August is a bit late if your application is going out in May as most schools will not review your applicatin until all materials are in, including DAT scores. The importance of applying early is to get interview slots, which do fill up quick. As far as noboby getting accepted or rejected until December 1st - that's just not true. Dental schools can only notify you of an acceptance after December 1st and they are free to make admissions decisions (and keep them to themselves) throughout the whole process and they do. For example, Case is rumored to start making decisions right after the first round of interviews and my rejection letter from ASDOH was dated and postmarked in October - they just dropped in the mail in mid-December.

i took the DATs already and my score was horrible, can i still apply to AADSAS in may and plan to retake the DATs in july/august? Because i called AADSAS and they told me not to send anything to them unless my whole application was ready to go...i dont understand it. Need a lil help here, thanks.

You dont have to send in your DAT through AADSAS. You can send it separately. Therefore, get your application in, take the DAT at a later time, and have that score sent directly to the schools.

Yes, by all means apply in May and get that application rolling and don't worry about including your new DAT scores with it. If you study a bunch and retake your DAT in July and August you'll be fine. AADSAS actually does not want your DAT scores. True, you can imput them into the application, but it is not necessary. The ADA sends out your scores within a couple of days of you taking the test and many schools actually download them. Keep up the hard work!

To the OP, I did the same thing last year, however I took my DAT at the end of July, (so August may be a touch late) but it didn't seem to slow up the app proccess, except at Arizona. Just make sure you really study and rock it.

Agree, do the DAT late July/early August the latest, because after that your application might not be reviewed early enough for you to get an interview before December. And your GPAs are not horrible, just do well on the DAT and you might want to add few schools (Nova, Creighton, and UOP)depending on how you do on the DAT.

I took my DAT in the middle of Sept. and although I thought it was a bit late, I was able to get in to several schools, no problem. Just make sure you are ready to take it, that's the most important issue. I must have rescheduled mine like 10 times by the time I took it and I'm glad I waited until I was ready. Good luck!
