Lets say for ex. somebody goes to asia after high school to study medicine ( outside of the US people go to med school after high school), and lets say he finishes take the USMLE, fails the first time, passes the second, and then applies for residency but doesn't match. Would it be possible for this person to come back the US, and then apply to an american medical school so that he can get a better medical education and perhaps increase his chances at matching?

I've heard of people reapplying to med school after doing med school abroad. Anecdotally, I think it's possible.

Yes, but I believe you would still need an undergrad degree to get into US med schools (unless the US med schools view your foreign med schools as an undergrad degree???).

I think in Asia, like Europe, an MD is an undergraduate degree. I don't see why it wouldn't count. Interesting, though.

You're only allowed to take the USMLE with a passing grade once, aren't you? I have to wonder how much more competitive just going through medical school again would make you.

from what I know you cannot go to a chinese med school after US high school. China selects where a student will attend school after high school based on test scores in that country. I have heard this from several chinese friends.

I do not think you can apply to med school in the US after doing what you suggest because you would need college credits that you not have received. Residency is different.

So best to just go to college and then med school. Though the education may seem like a waste of time it isn't. It allows you to mature first and foremost. Second, it provides you with life experiences that will allow you to make more informed decisions about your future. Also, you'll realize when you get older that high school kids are some of the dumbest people on the planet. A person with just a US high school degree would never be able to make it in medical school. Ever.

I want to say that I say "US high school degree" because of the way our system is set up. I am not saying that people with UK or chinese high school degrees can do US med school. I am sure they cannot. Training for a career in medicine is country dependent.

Finished, practiced as an attending, then came here.

I don't think it is possible to go to a US med school once you have a medical degree from anywhere (unless you lie and say you never went to med school)
