Hey dudes, I have been helping my uncle flip a house for his family to live in. Family is in Jordan and wanting to move in to USA. My uncle is here as a Syrian seeking sanctuary, and he does not have a lot of money so I have been helping him out for the past year. Not getting paid, I have put over 400 hours and counting. Would it count as volunteering even though the person I'm helping is a relative?
Thank you for your time

Hey dudes, I have been nice to my parents whenever I visit, and come visit every weekend if not more. I help them with chores and stuff even though they aren't paying me through college, I take out my own loans. Also I am nice and smile whenever I see people in general, improving the mood of everyone I meet, countless hours involved. Would it count as volunteering? Thank you for your time.

This is actual work I have been doing. When you have hauled carpet from two floors and itched to death after putting up insulation then you will understand

Absolutely not. It's like trying to get credit for breathing. You're supposed to help out family!

I know that, I've been doing this without a thought about medicine, but I was just wondering that's all.
Thanks for the input

If you want to highlight your home renovation skills, you can still list it under the Activities section, so long as you don't call it Volunteer/Community Service. Instead, consider using a tag like Hobbies, Extracurricular, or Other.

We have renovated two houses and it's a ridiculous amount of work (definitely not like putting out the trash or being nice when you visit). It's even worse if you have to live in it while you're renovating (we had a gaping hole in our kitchen for eight months, no drywall in that room, no kitchen to speak of, and unfinished concrete floors for over a year - not a fun situation). Definitely add it to your activities section, but don't count it as volunteering.

My step dad has MS and ran the local MS society.
I didn't count the hours that I helped with them, a legit volunteer organization, to avoid looking suspicious.
Who is your contact person? Your family? They're going to find that odd.

You've obviously developed a knack for building/renovating. Go find your local Habitat for Humanity and apply what you've learned.
