Would this make me to generic?

Majoring in Bio, minoring in psych, and becoming an EMT. I don't want to blend in with the crowd.

Well... better question... is that what you're passionate about? If that major/minor and being an EMT makes you happy, then do it. If volunteering with kids makes you happy, do it. I think that if you excel in whatever path you chose it will come through in your application and in your interview.

You're asking the wrong question. Will they be meaningful experiences that you will be glad to have done whether or not you end up going to medical school? That's the real question. They would look perfectly fine (not exceptional, but few applicants truly are) on a med school application, as would myriad other experiences.

In summary:
1. major in what you want to study
2. do what you want with the rest of your time, as long as you get a decent amount of clinical experience and do substantial volunteering of some kind

We're all generic-- we all have majors and all have extracurricular activities. There are few things that in itself will make any of us stand out-- I honestly believe that the true way to stand out is to be involved in something you're passionate about and let that passion show through. Doing something only because it seems like the thing to do to be admitted seems like a waste of your college years.

Then do the above, and actually manage to do them well. 👍

Seriously.

That will make you "stand out."

Minus the Bio part, which I haven't decided on yet (can't decide between bio, biochem, or neuro), you sound just like me. Also, you may like being a *paramedic more because you can do more critical care and overall have better clinical experience (*precious* clinical experience- if only you could see my impression of smiegel🙄).

dont let anyone fool you, this is a numbers game. get the grades, get the mcat, get into school.

it would require a lot more hours of training to become a paramedic.. im just going to stick with EMT-B

Your avatar is just awesome!

if you want to 'stand out' you should cut off your own leg and write all your essays about cutting off your own leg gave you a unique perspective.

Otherwise, its pretty hard to "stand out" (in a good way) in this process. There's always gonna be someone doing something cooler/more unique/better/longer/etc than you

Just do well on what you chose, and you'll be good to go.

That joke is so hilarious.

Ya I agree it's hard to stand out in the application process.

I saw that LizzyM had a small list of ppl who stood out, but their activities were just a little interesting/curious. Nothing too much I thought.

I'm actually pretty curious to see this list. Does anyone have a link?
