met a guy the other night and hit it off. then found out he's just graduated from a top 10 medical school and I couldn't spit out that I'm going to a caribbean school. I think it might be doomed! should i just let it go to avoid him measuring me like that? It might be better if I was a bartender or something

Why would it matter? If a "top 10 med school" guy won't date someone who went to a foreign school, then move on. Once you get into residency and have a successful career, it'll all be good, and you two will live happily ever after.

I would date an IMG if they were born in a foreign country and later came to the US - that shows they're pretty bright. A US-IMG is definitely more "iffy." I agree with anastomoses - probably best to find another IMG instead of intermixing. You seem to know that it will cause problems otherwise. Good luck.

i wish i was trolling. i wish wish wish. i wish i didn't withdraw that semester after someone stole my books. i think if i was an amg...i would be okay with him going to a better school. but img is like - how will he feel about it? you think he won't be saying she is definitely too stupid underneath? wouldnt it cross anyones mind who knows about our school structures? be honest with me.

If you're that insecure about where you go to school, I think that in itself will create problems no matter what he thinks. Do you judge the intelligence or self-worth of others by their profession or by where they went to school?

Obviously he'll still date you, but you'll have to be much more attractive than an American medical student. A student at a top 10 medical school would probably be invited to a date with just a 6 or 7 for looks. It a student from a solid state school could probably get invited to a date if they were an 8 or 9. For yourself, you'll need to be a solid 9 or 10 and have something else to bring to the table like excellence in making baked goods. You also may want to consider shadowing him a bit or even see if he'll accept you for an audition rotation back at your place...

You'd instantly out yourself. Only IMGs discuss (read: obsess over) their scores, and the 250+ scoring AMGs I know.

Regular med students don't blatantly ask what others step scores are. If I was asked that, I'd awkwardly gave a vague answer and change topics.

Srs advice - You are being wayyyyyyyyyy too insecure about your current standing. If it's affecting your thoughts on whether you are good enough for some guy who goes to a top 10 medical school, it's going to likely affect other areas of your life as well. You've made your decisions in life, now do the best you can after making them.

I don't think thats the issue here. It seems she's more concerned with the "value" of her education itself as opposed to her career which could actually wind up being better than his over the long run (no way to really say).

Yeah, I meant the latter one, sorry. You are right about the first part, long distance can be very tough. Personally, that's the main reason why I stuck to casually meeting people the past few months before shipping off to residency miles and miles away 😳
