I missed this when it happened... holy frakking hell. I wonder if they ever did get it reversed.
It's Florida. This lawsuit and outcome shouldn't surprise anyone.

We should have a thread called "1001 ways to get sued for millions of dollars without having done anything wrong." You can add this one to the list.

The expert witness for the plaintiff brought up some good points which probably sealed the deal with the jury. However, I don't think having that equipment would have made any difference in the outcome. It was a 25 weeker. There's a good change that baby had CP before labor even began.
The learning point for me if I am faced with this situation:
1) Fly that patient.
2) If flying isn't an option, make sure that the ambulance transferring is prepared to deal with the worst possible scenario- i.e.- premature delivery of a 25 weeker. I think, in this case, that would mean getting a neonatal unit to follow the ambulance just in case Mom gives birth.
