I have a question
i've completely decided that medicine is a field i'd love to be in.
but im worried about how some people who get into medicine say its just not worth it.
having to do a residency and being a slave. malpractice. 3rd and 4th year being intensely difficult, endless test.
so i ask you all.
would you do it all over again? or would you have gone a different path
post 😀

You should have this moved to the Residency forum. Attendings hang out there too so they'll be able to better answer this question.

this was originally in allopathic forum..
someone then moved it to pre-med

I'm an intern right now, and I would say that I would do it again.

However, I've made a lot of saccrifices to be where I am now (making < $50K/yr, in $175K of debt, and working 70+ hours a week)

If you're not willing to make tremendous saccrifices...if you consider yourself "kind of lazy" ...medicine is probably not the right field for you.

i wouldnt call myself lazy..
when im actively engaged i prove to have tons of fun..
but.. i do enjoy down time =)

The general response to this question is if money is your motivation go into accounting. If you truly love human science and patient care then go into medicine. Ask yourself if you would be happy doing anything else. If the answer is no then medicine is right for you.

what health care field would you think this type of personality is best for..
i am
over confident
i think and like to be right all the time
im both lazy and able, i got capability and i got laziness
and i like the humanities and philosophizing about endless and mundane things even if stupid.

you got psychiatry written all over you bro

i did want to go into psychiatry...
but..
i found the field of working with mentally crazy people slightly..
too interesting..
regardless..
if anything i'd be like the dude on law and order svu who works with the legal system and works as a psychiatrist

lol i know right..
but realistically if your a psychiatrist you've gotta be careful, i mean dealing with crazy folk.. what happens if one decides to google you and knocks on your door at 3 am for who knows what reason..
but i wonder who would be a more rocking individual from a t.v series
ducky from ncis or hong the psychiatrist from law and order

Yeah, psych is my major, and i find it really interesting, although i don't think i could do psychiatry as my career, and i have absolutely NO IDEA WHY.

It's interesting but ehh i don't know, maybe it's just too vague of a field. I feel like treating patients who are psychotic or have some sort of mental illness would be too difficult of a task to do. I give a lot of respect to those who can.

eh.. i mean.. psychiatry is all about talking.. thinking.. and prescribing drugs..
there's no real prevention or actual fixing.. just treat and keep the person stable..
its depressing ..
