Nope. I would not be willing to lose 3 or 4 years of income to go to pharmacy school then add school loans on top of that if the pay was only $46,000. It would not be a good return on my investment.
While Pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, and retail pharmacies take in record profits? NO WAY. Perhaps if each decreased proportionally there'd be some justice to that. If everyone's benefitting, then pharmacists ought to be in on the deal for the work they do. Still, fat chance this could ever be reality unless they keep opening pharmacy schools and produce pharmacist robots...

no, because it wouldn't be worth 8 years of college to earn what I could with 4. not only that, but the increased debt for equal money is just bad business
This is the income per household not individual. The average annual income of an American Household is 46K meaning husband and wife combined. I was reading somewhere that 50% of Americans make less than 30K/year, I tried googling the article but couldnt find it. For the most part most Americans don't make jack shi*. Very little money actually trickles to the bottom, most of it goes to the corporate suit CEOs and big wigs. This article says that the CEO's of the top 500 companies made an average of 10.9 mil/year.

Absolutely noone would be a pharmacist if the average salary was 46K.
Just so you all know, the CEO of CVS makes twice as much as the CEO for Walgreens!

I still would. Just because the average market salary is that low doesn't mean I couldn't venture out and make more.
It may not be a good analogy...but look at law. You have public defenders making 50K per year... then you have corporate attorneys making a lot more.

I'd say about 85-90% of the people do pharmacy for the money, which is why I did it.
It doesnt make any sense to go to school for 6,7,8 years when you could have just gone to school for 4 years and make the same money, especially with pharmacy school costing around 20-25000/yr to go to.

Interesting! When I said I was going to go to pharmacy school, my friends and some family suggested to go to optometry!!
Just interchange "count pills" with "twist knobs". For some reason they actually get to be called "Dr such-and-such" by the general public, though....
Not a bad job, my cousin in Florida has some contract with a private health facility for 150k/year.

Oh hell no, I could make close to that much right now if i pulled some overtime. The opportunity cost to go to school for 6-8 years is too much to, for the sake of argument, work for CVS at 46k a year. I mean, I like science and I like healthcare, but I don't like pharmacy enough to make "average" pay. I could go into law enforcement, nursing, cooking...fields i'm almost as interested in, with less school, and make more money.

Yes, I would. It's not about the money for me, it's actually the very last thing I think of when I do think about becoming a pharmacist. I genuinely enjoy it, and I can't imagine myself doing anything else. I don't care about the years of schooling. As a matter of fact, I'm going to owe about 20+ in student loans just on my UGrad degree, and that's 4 years of school for me, and probably end up doing something not anywhere related to my science degree. If I were to just start working after that, I'd probably start at 40k anyway.
