I have the opportunity to test out of physiology this fall as a DS-1. I took physio several years ago and did very well. It was one of my favorite undergrad classes. I genuinely don't want to miss a good learing opportunity but it is tempting to study this summer and test out to free up my schedule to devote to other classes/family etc. What would you do? 😕

I wouldn't test out of it. It is a huge part on national boards and the concepts are important in tons of other classes (like pharmacology). It will just reinforce the concepts even more and if you already know most of it you won't have to work too hard while taking it.
I took the 1st semester of physiology at BYU (the 400 level) and the course in d-school went into a lot more detail, although I did have a brand new teacher that semester at the Y.

i did great in physiology in undergrad too and i plan on at least attempting to test out for d school if given the opportunity. i feel that my undergrad class was very challenging and thouroughly taught the subject matters. why take it all over again when i can use the time to study for other classes that i haven't taken yet? however, i might change my mind about that due to you have a good point about reinforcing it before boards.

Go ahead and give it a shot--it seems as though you don't have much to lose. What score do you have to obtain to test out? If you obtain a score very borderline but still passing, then you might want to attend the course anyway. If you're way above the necessary mark then it would seem that you know the applicable concepts for the course and NBDE I.

Who taught your physio? Rhees, Porter, Judd, or somebody else? Which one did you take?

If it were me, I'd rather not test out of it. I think it is better to go ahead and take a class and have it fresh in your mind for boards... Otherwise I'd feel I had to study like crazy to cover that subject right before boards.
But if you really feel like those physiology concepts are firmly planted in your brain, go for it.

Honestly, I don't remember. I think it was zoo 261??? I don't recall the prof's name. Nerdy but well organized lectures. Tests were tough yet fair. This was about ten years ago mind you. My feeling is to take the course due to the emphasis placed on the boards and because I really want to know the material. I guess if it had been a 300-400 level course and not ten years ago I would be more cocky about taking the test (you need a 70% or better). That extra time off each week is mighty tempting though..... 🙄

If you can "skip" the class officially, why not? It's one less course to worry about, giving you prob have 10+ other classes to worry about. You can still attend the lectures without having to worry about taking midterms for it.
