hehe sorry about the subject...had to do that to get extra hits on this thread...

Hey guys....i had a thread earlier (excerpt shown below from previous)....the GPA of 3.2 and science GPA of 3.25 is for the AACOMAS. I forgot to take into acount that my AMCAS GPA is diff for both. My AMCAS GPA is 3.32 instead of a 3.2 from aacomas and Science is 3.52 instead of a 3.25 from aacomas...do you think this will make a difference in my chances of getting in by a lot? Thank a lot guys!

"Hi everyone. Well I applied to MD and DO. I didn't use DO for a backup. My goal is to become a physician. In fact, I think a DO is better than a MD. DO=MD+OMT. I have been reading a lot of your posts to seek comfort. I have a 3.2 gpa, 3.25 science gpa, and a 28O MCAT. I know a lot of you hate using numbers as criteria for "competitiveness," but please give me a honest opinion. Currently I am a Senior seeking a degree in Psychology. I have over 400 hours of volunteering at hospitals. Shadowed 2 DO's and 1 MD for a total of 150 hours. I have 2 years of leadership (Vice President of ISA). I'm Asian-Indian and that probably is a downfall for me. I submitted my AACOMAS app at the end of September. I was wondering if anyone experienced in the admissions process can give me my chances of getting in anywhere! I'm losing sleep worrying about this. Thank you very much for your help!!"

umm...yeah

haha

a 3.2 jump to a 3.5 is pretty significant and i didnt know those two had such different ways of calculating grades...

but anyways...

yeah a 3.5 is over a B+ average and is a good gpa to be relatively competitive.
dont fret too much man.

just go with the flow and take the hits when they come.

what meakes the difference in the Do and MD school calculations specificaly?

overreact much?

The reason why is that amcas calculates all grades, retakes too into your GPA. Even if you are given academic forgiveness for a class, they will apply that grade too. Accomas only calculates final grades into your GPA.

I applied to both DO and MD and my GPA is the same for both applications. I have no idea why there is such a difference in the calculations. Maybe it is because of what LP1CW suggested.

Well, I think that reason is that aacomas took into acount for my science gpa one class that they consider as a math class but in reality it is a computer science class. I don't know why! If i try to explain to aacomas that my matlab class is not a mathclass, but a comp sci class, my science gpa will shoot up...the reason why i think my normal gpa went up to a 3.3 in acmas is due to the fact that they account all grades ever taken into the gpa...because during high school, i was taking some classes at a community college where I got A's and they took that into acount in my gpa whereas aacomas did not....

But as LB1CW said, it still shouldn't affect my gpa because I never retook a class...so i really don't knwo what the problem is...but i'm not going to complain to amcas!! =)
