I know it's a small school, but is there anyone who has decided on Wright State? Any useful info?

Hey, I'm going there! I posted a thread like this before but no one responded. Glad to see someone else considering this school. Have you decided on Wright state or are you still looking at other schools? I decided to go there because I got a scholarship, and I like the fact that it's a small school. I also liked the atmosphere when I interviewed there.

Hi ladydoc2be,
I'll definitely be there this summer. I can't wait!

I can't wait either! I'm glad I finally met a fellow classmate. Have you looked at housing yet? I found an apartment at the Highlands which is not too far from the school.

Hey,
I'm actually not from Ohio, but I'll be flying there next week to look at apartments.

Good luck with your apartment search. Since you're not from Ohio, what made you decide to come to Wright state?

Thank you, I actually leave tomorrow. I read about Wright State in the MSAR book and sent a primary and secondary. I was invited for an interview and actually just liked the environment. I was only there for a day, but from what I saw it looked like a place where I could spend four years. The school itself seems great, and I liked the attitude of the students. Basically, I felt comfortable at Wright State, and the surrounding area.

On another note, I just realized you are a black female. Guess what ... so am I! That's exciting. But are we the only two students attending Wright State? lol

That is exciting! So are you doing the prematricualtion program? I am. I can't wait to start. I'm moving there at the end of June. When did you interview because there was another black girl at my interview, maybe it was you. It's weird that we're the only two people on here that are going to Wright State. I know it's small but still. Well good luck in your apartment search. I don't know which ones you plan on visiting, but I'll tell you that the best ones I saw were Red Deer and the Highlands so make sure you look at those.

Hi girls! I will def be at Wright State. I'm so excited. Apartments I looked at were Emerald Lakes, Ashton Brooke and Wexford on the Green, all super close to the school and in very nice areas.

Hi crys20! Glad to meet another future classmate. I saw Emerald Lakes and Wexford on apartments.com but I didn't know how close Beavercreek was to the school so I only looked at Fairborn apartments. Fairborn didn't seem to have very good options, but the one I chose (Highlands) was pretty decent and its just a couple minutes away from the school. If I had known Beavercreek was so close, I would've definitely looked at apartments there cuz it looks like a really nice town.

Hi! I'm so excited to talk to you guys. Yeah, the apt I found at Wexford is like 4 min away. I agree, the whole Fairborn/Beavercreek thing confused me too. All that matters is you found a great close place though. Can't wait to meet you all in July!!

Hey,

Glad to see another Wright State student! I just got back from looking at apartments. I didn't get to see a one bedroom at the Highlands, but I did see their two bedroom model - very nice! I didn't like Red Deer too much. My favorite was Stone Falls (but I can't afford that, lol). I liked Charter Woods also - a little more reasonable, and Maple View had a nice special. As you can see, I saw a lot of communities. I won't be signing a lease until June though.

I inteviewed toward the end of January. I will definitely like to participate in the pre-matriculation program.

Hey ladies! Well I'll be moving down there on June 23rd. I'm so excited. Premed 2010, if you want to do the prematriculation program you have to turn in an application that's on that accepted students website. I think it's due June 1. I talked to a second year minority student and she definitely recommended doing it. And I guess you weren't the girl at my interview cuz I interviewed in September. Talk to you all later, gotta study for my finals!

hey guys (well, ladies, i guess),

congrats on your acceptances! wsu is a great school, and a fantastic place to live. beavercreek/fairborn/dayton isn't the best place for going out to clubs, etc, but its a very nice, friendly, cheap place to spend four hectic years. there's also a surprising amount of fun stuff to do for a small city. i really liked the area.

i went to college at wsu and i worked in a lab in the med school for a couple of years while i was there (although i'm not going to med school at wsu), so if you guys have any questions about the campus/area/whatever, fire away and i'll try my best to remember my college days...

also, my former boss, bob putnam, will probably still be your prof for respiration physiology. he is a fabulous person and teacher, as well as being one of the best scientists in his field. enjoy and work hard!!

I'm not going to Wright State, but I did grow up in Fairborn and my absolute favorite Dayton-area restaurant is Bravo, which is by the Dayton Mall (exit 2 off of 675 southbound). Best Italian food in town!

fun stuff to do near campus would mainly revolve around seeing attractions at the nutter center (a beautiful arena by any standards). my all-time favorite nutter center event was getting to see black sabbath on their first reunion tour. other big acts come to the nutter center, too (korn, aerosmith, etc). away from campus in dayton there is a minor-league baseball team (dayton dragons; class-A affiliate of the cincinnati reds) with a very nice new stadium. GREAT way to spend a sunny afternoon or a summer evening.

as for eating, in Fairborn i recommend a bar downtown on main st. called Tickets. some of the best buffalo wings i've ever had. if you do travel down south to the Miamisburg/Centerville exit of 675 (btw, i grew up in Miamisburg), Bravo's is very good (my parents' favorite restaurant), but on the same street there's a place with good indian food called Amar India, and for special occasions, nothing beats Carver's. definitely the best steaks/lobster/crab legs in the dayton area. make sure you go to Carver's. soon. god i miss Carver's! also, in Centerville there is an old mom-and-pop donut shop--Bill's Donuts--that rules and fabulous chinese at the China Cottage.

i'm sure there's (much) more, but this is what was the most immediate stuff i could come up with. if i sense any glaring omissions, i'll update.

Hi!

I'm coming to Wright State in the fall, too! Glad to hear from some fellow members of the class of 2010...I'm super excited! I found an apartment at Ashton Brooke, mainly because I have a second year friend living there now and I didn't do a ton of searching...I'm definitely excited to get started 🙂

hey guys,
so i'll be joining the class of 2010 at wright state med and started looking at apartments. i'm interested in Charter Woods....does anyone know if this is a good place to live??

Howdy!

Also a member of the class of 2010 at WSU. I'm currently working on finishing up my MPH at Wright State, so I'd be happy to answer any questions about my experiences with Dayton and WSU so far. As for apartments, my wife and I live in Springboro (about 20-25 minutes away), but we looked at apartments all over the area and I would be happy to share what I learned. Oh, and there's not really an exit on 675 that's far away from Wright State, so feel free to check out the surrounding area as well.

Hey, I haven't been on here in a while. Glad to see some new classmates and I can't wait to meet all of you in the fall!

jimerella, I went to Charter Woods when I was looking for apartments and the lady told me that they can't rent to Wright State students because they are affiliated with Wright State student housing (whatever that means). She then told me to look at the Highlands because it was close by and had similar style apartments. I ended up getting a unit at the Highlands. It seems like apart from the Highlands, there aren't too many nice apartments in Fairborn. If I were you I would look into Beavercreek as well.

i am getting soo excited! has anyone heard anything besides those newsletters? like fin aid or anything?

I'm still waiting to hear about financial aid. I was getting a bit worried since they said they'd start sending it out May 1st, but I guess it's a good sign if other people haven't heard either.

Hey guys I was actually gonna post on here today to see if anybody else had gotten fin aid letters cuz they said they would do it soon after May 1st and its already almost June. Guess I'm not alone. I'm moving down there in about a month. I can't wait!

I haven't received my finaid package either.

About Charter Woods - they never told me that they don't rent to WSU students. They showed me an apartment and everything. They are a little smaller than some of the others I had seen (I'm talking 1 bedroom), but they are nice.

LadyDoc, have you heard anything about the PreMatric program?

Well that's weird about Charter Woods. I guess it depends on who you talk to over there. And yea I got a call from Charlotta Taylor saying that I was accepted into the prematric program. What about you?

Yes, I received a phone call too. I was just wondering if you heard anything else, i.e. books we need to buy and any other info we will need for that first day.

Well Ms Taylor had said that they would send something out in the mail but that's all I know. I was wondering the same thing too cuz its not that far away and they really havent told us anything yet about the program. Have you found a place to live yet?

Hey guys,

I've not been accepted to WSU yet, but I am high on the waitlist. I was wondering if any of you have heard anything about the waitlist movement?

I'm afraid I haven't heard anything about waitlist movement. I did, however, talk to a friend of mine who just finished her first year at WSU. She says that she didn't receive her aid package until very late last year - she thinks it might have been July.

Anyone hear any fin aid info yet?

As of today I have a financial aid award available to me on WSU's Wings Express site. I am a current grad student there; I do not know if this site is available to anyone not currently registered.

I wanted to join this conversation. I too have been frustrated with the Fin Aid process. I am an Anatomy graduate student who will be attending WSU med school next year. I too found an award letter in my Wings Express. I have an email in to Mr. Conner to find out if this is from the medical school or just from the graduate process. Look forward to meeting all of you.

I still have heard nothing, and we start school in less than a month! 🙂

Hello fellow classmates!!!!!!

I'm excited to meet everyone. I just got pulled off the waitlist on Thursday so I'm super excited. God is good!!! Hey viruszapper, I was also in the top section of the waitlist. I'm sure you've heard something by now, but if not just keep the faith b/c it will all work out and I'll see you on July 30th 🙂

Also speaking of fin aid, does anyone know who our contact person is? I emailed Mr. Conner, but it bounced back to me and he's not in the WSU staff directory anymore??
Is there supposed to be a code in our acceptance package so that we can log on to WINGS?

I grew up in Beavercreek so if you guys have any questions let me know, but it seems like everything has pretty much already been covered. I can't help much with the apartment search because I'll be staying with my parents. But anytime you guys need a home cooked meal, we can head to my folks, lol. And I guess I'm number 3 for black females in the class. See you all soon.

Hey all...I know we start soon, but just wanted to say I am another WSU 2010-er. Can't wait to meet you all! 🙂 🙂

Hey if anyone is still having trouble getting their financial aid award letter, check out WINGS. (http://luminis1.wright.edu/cp/home/loginf) And if you don't have a username and password call CaTS Help Desk at 937-775-4827.

I called this morning and told them I was in the med school and they gave me a username and temp password. I logged on and found an email from the FinAid department on how to find my FinAid award letter. You can accept/decline the loans directly on WINGS. I hope this helps and see everyone in 2 weeks!!!
