There is this school that I really want to go to.
I interviewed there the first day.
My numbers are very close to their averages. Some above, some slightly below.

Some people have been accepted to this school that have interviewed after I interviewed.

Should I write a letter to this school outlining why I want to go there and explain some of the downfalls in my application (slight downhill GPA trend)?

Could this be viewed negatively?

thanks

i'm sending a letter out to my dream school (UCSF) telling them why I'm qualified to be in their program and why they are a great fit for me before they decide to throw my file in the garbage :scared:. You're farther along in the process, but I believe the strategy would be the same.

My application has a few tarnishes, but i dont want to mention them at this point. i figure the committee already knows I sucked at VR and since my only excuse would be, "I had a bad day" then nothing good could come from it.

I would only comment on your weak points if you have really sound excuses about why they are that way. Otherwise just emphasize strengths.

If you remember your interviewers' names throw them a shout out. what what.

:luck:

Yes, it could be viewed negatively. Why would you want to bring up your weaknesses in a LOI? Write them, express interest, maybe an update, done. Don't bring up your weaknesses. If they didn't bring them up in the interview, they probably weren't that big a deal to them.

yeah, but it won't help if you've been waitlisted already

Never talk about your weakness unless you asked. Always focus of presenting your strengths and show your passion to be a doctor

An adcom at NYMC agrees! If they ask for the "red flag question," unless you really need to explain something, do not bring up ANYTHING.

I'm at a different stage in the game: pre-application phase (that's what I call it anyway, lol). I sent letters to the Deans of the Schools I'm interested in and just getting to know different people, outling my goals and aspirations, but not overdoing it or making it like superfluous. I don't know if it'll work but i've met some very nice people. I really wish you luck in the process.

it wasnt brought up in the interview because it was closed file

i have a pretty good reason for the downward trend GPA but never explained it
