Wooden pencils are unacceptable waste of resources. Why waste trees when you can buy mechanical pencils? There are no advantages to wooden pencils and if you use your mechanical pencil for a while, it will end up costing less than the wood pencil because lead refills are cheaper and utilized close to 100%. It's good that only 5% or so in here use wood. Let it stay in your pocket.
Almost every mechanical pencil I have purchased has broken down within the second lead being used. Somehow, the lead slips back into the pencil during use. This is incredibly annoying, so instead I used a wooden pencil because if the lead breaks, I can resharpen the pencil (and I do).

Besides, I would rather use a tree, than create more plastic.

That used to happen to me, which is why I invested 8 bucks into a "good quality" mechanical pencil, and I have been using it for about 8 months now and it is still functional.

There´s nothing like a perfectly broken in mechanical pencil, when it´s like worn down to fit your hand and everything. Of course, at that point I inevitably lose it and have to start all over...

Anyone else still get really excited to buy some new writing utensils at the start of a school year? I thought I would outgrow that...🙄

Yep I use pen for everything including math and physics. Pen just looks better than pencil ever will.

You must pretty violent in your writing, monsieur. Unless you bang your notes with your pencil or try to chew the metal parts, I can't see your problem materializing. Try this pencil: http://www.zebrapen.com/pencil-m301.html. It costs a few bucks and I have one that I bought over two years ago and still use it. It's made in Japan and they sell it at Staples, Office Depot, etc.

Personally, I think that taking notes in pen is better because it is permanent, whereas pencil can fade with time or rub off - ergo pens for notes and pencils for exams.

By the way, mechanical pencils are not one of the plastic garbage culprits. Your plastic bags for garbage are. So let's not sacrifice trees for a reasonless cause.

Am I the only one who dreams of someday having a stock of personalized writing utensils to use/hand out to patients, with my name/address/practice group emblazoned on the side?

Oh, and blue Pilot Easytouch fine-point. I'll never use anything else.

G2 Pens by far the greatest around!!!

I really like the .5 Zebra mechanical pencils, I've got one almost 5 years old. I dislike G-2s cause I always smear the ink.

Not all of us use pencils for taking notes... different task, different utensil... just sayin'...

Ultra fine point sharpie or ball point pen

I like mechanical pencils but I can't understand why they have those teeny-tiny erasers. I mean what is up with that? I make a lot of mistakes with my sloppy handwriting and I need way more eraser than that.

i like to use crayons because you can eat them afterwards

I use the million dollar Montblanc pen with a few thousand black diamonds in it.

Naw, I found Ticonderoga pencils last year and loved them (especially the eraser). It was strange that I never saw anyone using them.

It seems like everyone uses them this year though 👍

I don't like pens at all. I erase a lot, especially in math and science, and couldn't imagine using a pen. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to writing neat notes, and scribbling out just doesn't flow for me.

I've been thinking about trying the pilot g-2 though.

I can't stand using anything except a mech. pencil. The sound of a regular (wooden) pencil's eraser makes my head want to explode. It's all scratchy and dry:bang:...my version of fingernails/chalkboard.

I'm the exact same way. I think it comes from when I was little and I would sometimes wind up with those super cheap wooden pencils with erasers that were basically liquified-then-dried finger nail clippings or something. They didn't erase, in fact they LEFT more marks then they removed, AND they made the most horrible scratchy sound.

Going to have nightmares tonight...:scared:
