W's counted as F's?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have W's and at every interview they asked me why I dropped the classes. I told them... and then moved on. No questions asked.

Although if you have a bunch of them in science courses they are going to question you about why you dropped all the classes. They don't count as F's unless you have a bunch and they are in science courses. Just my opinion

How many? I have four currently, all but one of those are due to some extrenuating cirumstance. (changing major, illness) If I add this one it will be because I was slack and the class kind of sucked.

Illnesses are certainly understandable. My friend had a severe bout of unexplained migraines and was constantly in the hospital. She has entire quarters withdrawn. And they were retro-actively withdrawn as well which suggests the University agreed to the reasons.

Ok, here's a situation for you guys. Would you take a W or a C in a non-science course? (my AACOM GPA would be a 3.37 instead of a 3.4x if I kept it and made a C)

Take the W. Especially since it isn't even a science slass.

Edited by AmyB after rereading your question and realizing it is a nonscience course.

I have 7 W's in the same semester, but I also had a great reason. My husband changed jobs and we moved 120 miles away. This included a withdraw from the Master's program I was currently in. The adcoms have asked and then seemed fine with the explaination.

I had 3 other w in the past four years besides the ones mentioned above. 1 from changing my major, one from HATING the class and wanting to withdraw so I could schedule my volunteering at the free clinic and one because I tested out of the class and totally forgot to drop the course.

take the W's over a few C's. No doubt about it. One or two W's may not even be noticed. OTOH, one or two C's have to be noticed because they are present in your gpa. The difference between a 3.65 and a 3.53 is not trivial in some cases.
