Hi! I’m about a year a half from applying to dental school. So far I have 10 w’s. I’m getting worried that my first year won’t allow me to be looked at further by dental schools. In that time I went to dental assisting school and realized how much I love it and want to continue in my dental career. I know I messed up (my mom and brother in law past away in that time). I don’t want to make excuses so I’ve been determined from here on out i will exceed in my classes and do well on the DAT. Is there a chance I should even still be pursuing dentistry with that many W’s? I’m currently working with an Oral surgeon who has written a strong LOR and my hours are unbeatable. What will help me get in?

Maybe your W's is helping you steer away from Dentistry. Dentistry is in a really bad place right now. Dental insurance companies are killing our industry. It's time to look elsewhere. Real estate. Or computer. Go to a programming bootcamp. After 10 years into a computer career, you will be making more money than most dentists.

I would say go for it! If dentistry is something you truly want to do...then do it. Just make sure you do not drop anymore classes, and focus on acing all of your classes. I had 6 W's on my transcript, aced all of my classes, and did well on the DAT. I have 7 interviews this cycle out of the 10 I applied to. Not one of the interviews I have attended have mentioned them. Best of luck, amigo!

P.S. I might not be the most suitable person to give advice since I am not accepted yet, but I thought I would give my two cents.
