Is a W bad even if I still enrolled full time. I took too many classes and ended up with a W in calculus because it was too much for me to handle alongside other science courses. Despite that, I was still enrolled full time at 13 units. Will the W hurt my application.

Oh while we're at it, I'd like to sympathize with people so please share me all the W's you have if you have any.

I got W's in:

Accounting 100
Music 101
Public Speaking......(Forgot to call in after dropping on the first day dammit!!!)
and
Calculus 1

Are these too many W's?

I think you'll have to expect to explain any Ws you have. One or two is understandable, particularly when you are just beginning in college. It is hard to know what kind & mix of courseload you can handle.

There is always the unexpected - a family illness or something which perhaps may apply.

But - 4??? That & particularly the fact you forgot to drop the class is a reflection on your judgement ability. I'd say you need to stop this pattern & only enroll in & complete those courses you are able to handle. If everything else looks exceptional on your application, it might be overlooked. But right now...it looks as though you just quit when things get tight. (And...13 units is not that many.....lots of folks do 16).

But...perhaps others have different thoughts...

Were all these W's within a one year time frame?

Your W in calculus is the only one I would be concerned about, for the others are easier classes to do well in.

The Ws on my transcript were done in my initial undergraduate years (I have four total), and like you, I always remained full-time in spite of the W. Also, some classes were just plain boring (never a science or math). I was never failing in any of my W classes, but rather did not connect either to the material or to the professor's style of teaching.

That would be my excuse to admissions. Also, I think that admissions will place more importance on your recent schooling first. Yours seem like they were accrued years back because most of those that you described are not Pharm School pre-reqs, with the exception of calculus.

My counselor told me that a "C" grade is even worse than a "W"... so hopefully u got a B or higher on your other completed courses... I guess u just have to take those classes over again so they can see that u went back and finished up.

Can someone explain to me how a "W" works and why people would use it other than hating the class. I know it means withdrawal, but is it used at anytime? Like if I were to drop a class on the first or second day, would that count as a "W".

Generally you have a drop period the first week or so of class and if you drop in that time the class just goes away and never shows up on your record. Ws show up if you withdraw from the class after that. Some places have a WP or WF classifications depending on if you are passing or failing at the time of withdrawal. These aren't counted in your GPA but the WF looks worse.

Each university has its own withdrawal policy. At UIC, you can drop without it being recorded until Friday of the second week at 5pm. Between weeks 3 and 6, you can get a late drop, but it will be on your transcript. You are only allowed a certain number of those.
