WTF happened to this forum

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am OK, glad to see you.

You too!

Does anyone want to discuss guns? Here is my Weapon of Choice:

Arch has been the most level headed moderator this forum has seen. Clearly, whatever the previous ban was for, it was justified.

Arch is not the issue here.

Arch is a fabulous moderator.

OK.

We've established that.

NOW,

PUH LEASE LISTEN

THIS FORUM SUCKS.

BORING, PREDICTABLE, BLAH BLAH BLAH

NO LEADERSHIP HERE MAN.

This forum goes through cycles. Lots of good clinical material to lots of political threads to lots of flame wars to lots of rank/match stuff. Personally I can do without the flame wars and name calling. To me, this is a resident and student forum. I feel like the flame wars/name calling/disrespectful posts do nothing but discourage input and questions from the group who benefit most from spending time here. As for the academic answers and miller regurgitation, sometimes these answers are best and sometimes not but all in all the more people who participate here the better. Post your questions, post your thoughts, right or wrong, we all may learn something. To me, threads like this add nothing to the forum. To the moderators, all you guys have to do is look at the first page here and check out the content. There are some great cases and great learning opportunities that can be found with minimal effort. Thank you for the time you put in here.

Saw the original post at 2 a.m. Jet. Why the edit? It was telling.

😉 He likes to post off the cuff, and very very often rethinks things 15 or 20 minutes later and softens what he wrote. At times it makes it difficult to engage him in conversation, because about the time you have a reply ready, history has been altered and the reply doesn't make any sense.

I think Jet vs Arch/me/cchoukal just have a very different view of what a moderator's role should be. He keeps mentioning a need for "leadership" or someone to run point on the forum. I personally don't see such a need.

Moderators are like referees at sporting events, and the old saying there is just as true here: players win games, coaches lose games, and referees ruin games.

All of the regular readers and posters here are the real players - they make this place what it is.

As moderators/referees, we try to stay out of the way and not be noticed at all. When we do it well, no one notices we're here.

Where I fundamentally disagree with Jet is that I don't think we need any coaches. Nor do I think the bulk of our posters and lurkers want to be coached.

This forum has been popping these past 3 days.

Really enjoying it. 🙂

Nice post.

Please don't misunderstand me...

I don't wanna see coaches here.....that's too designed....too controlled.

I wanna see

ROKKSTARRS.

I'm a writer.

My mentor told me long ago to

WRITE UNFILTERED.

Said advice has paid dividends with the fictional stories and character development I come up with.

I use the same style here which....uhhhhh....

when I reread an unfiltered

post I write

sometimes

I feel the need to

tone it down a bit.

Look, my prose is an

outlet

whether it's here or on a legal pad developing a character.

I try to keep it between the lines here.

I'm sure my definition of "keeping it between the lines" is much different than most of you.

I'm ok with that.

A lyric just popped into my head:

WHY STAND ON A SILENT PLATFORM

FIGHT THE WAR

F UC K THE NORM

I can't take credit for that one.

That's Zach's.

Jet,

You're definitely keepin the mic warm against the norm.... Damn I miss RATM.

I'm just a student, soon to be resident (knocking wood), I think all we have here is needed. I enjoy the clinical cases, I like the idea of some "outside the box" ideas getting thrown around to initiate real discussion. I also admire Blades passion, and I think the Blade-blast has become iconic, HIS prose if you will.

I also think you and your style, your larger than life persona, your "this is how we do it in the jungle of PP, outside the halls of academia" message brings personality and perspective to this site/forum.

I like it all, stick around, provide that of which you feel is missing and be the example you feel this place needs.

Propagate your township rebellion, but through addition, not subtraction.

Well said.

Thank you for STEPPING UP.

(dude btw that last line...that's poetry man...thanks for that)

WAIT......Is this POSSIBLY......My old pal, CFDAVID??????

:smack:

Really?

Out of politeness and respect for the dead banned, we generally don't publicly comment on bans per SDN policy, but I will point out that cfdavid wrote in complete sentences and wasn't a personal attack kind of guy.
