So my professor definitely did not show up for my calc final today. All three of his classes were sitting in class and waited the whole two hours.

Anyone ever have experience with a prof not showing up for a final, and what outcomes?

You're lucky.

calc final on a saturday? you sure you guys just didnt show up on the wrong date/time? lol, if he did make it, most likely you'll still have to make it up anyways, jsut consider yourself to have more study time

No, my school gives finals on Saturdays as well.

So what happens?

No way! What if the OP was studying for the entire week, was well prepared and now has to devote a bit more time to studying so he/she won't forget the material so soon. The worse part will now be if the rescheduled final falls on a day he has another final when he wasn't supposed to. I hate it when professors fail to stick to the schedule as if their lives were of the only importance.

I'm willing to bet your professor thought your exam is/was next week. We get into a rut, and forget to adjust when our exams are moved around. I'm so used to showing up to teach by 9:30 that when they shifted the exam from 10 - 12, I couldn't grasp it, and have had to remind myself daily since I saw the schedule.

I hope your prof is ok (like nothing bad happened to him)

If he is ok, and just forgot/overslept then you lucked out🙂

the problem is i know a lot of people leaving town before monday because today was their last final.

and school policy is teachers arent allowed to schedule their finals, all calc finals (I-III) were today, so nothing conflicts. Hopefully they'll just give A's to everyone😀 Or hes going to fail half the class because there is no way everyone has time to take it.

Or the teacher can hold the grades can give everyone an Incomplete until they take the final..which would probably mean that those who are leaving town will have to wait until after the break. My friend told me that a professor at his school made everyone take the final again because he heard there was a copy of the test going around and he didn't find out until after.

That happened to the class that took the statistics (if I remember correctly) class before mine. I believe they all go A's for that exam. The professor showed up for ours though 🙁

What if someone's graduating and can't without that grade? It's hardly fair to penalize the students who did what they were supposed to do -- show up to take the final. I think it's more realistic to think that the students will receive whatever grade they've earned thus far and just drop the final altogether.

O hope thats what happens, even though ill get a B for Calc one, but this prof just sucks. Two A's in three in all of his classes. Luckily with ratemyprofessor.com i have an amazing calc teacher next semester, but my chem teacher sucks.

You really should contact the Dean of Students about this, because if your prof just went ahead and calculated your grades minus the final that could be bad news for a lot of people. That, and the DoS needs to know regardless so that it doesn't happen in the future.

Yes, happened to us last year in our physics class. Professor didn't show up and we waited for 1/2 hr. Then one of us went to the Physics Department to find out about our professor. No word on him. They just told us to leave if he didn't show up in another 1/2 hr. He didn't show up. We left. It was the last day of finals in December. Then we checked our e-mails. Apparently, he was stuck on the highway-- there was an accident that had backed up traffic for miles. We had to take it in the first week of January.

off topic, after 6 hours finally finished one problem on my real analysis take home final, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, i want to kill my self.

I feel your pain with the real analysis final. That class was one of the hardest ever. Made Pchem look easy by comparison. Complex variable calculus was cake compared to real analysis (yes, even with the branch cuts).

This, too, shall pass.

its not hard i just like never went to class and ddin't by the book, so what did i expect, but 6 hour is still 6 hours.

I know he didnt get stuck in traffic because he rides his bike to school everyday. So he probably slept in, forgot, or something really bad happened. Hopefully nothing bad.

And it was saturday so campus was pretty dead. We did talk to a calc prof next door and he told us to go to the math department monday morning. I am going to be pissed if i have to take the final when i get back because that is five weeks of me stressing a lot.

but I once had a professor who didn't show up to an evening class (not a final, but still), and she lived in on-campus faculty housing so we couldnt figure out why she wasn't there...
turned out she was in a car accident, contacted someone who just didn't pass on the informaiton, and no one was around in the evening to let us know. I think in that case they would make accomodations for everyone, maybe to take it at the beginning of the next semester or something.

to update everyone, the professor passed away in his sleep the night before the final exam. i feel bad for the guy, he was a tough prof but everyone did like him.

anyways the final is optional at this point and since i am happy with my B, i am not going to take the final.

Poor dude, that sucks. Hopefully, he simply passed away painlessly, and hopefully, it wasn't because students prayed that this would happen..... :scared:

wow, thats crazy. How old was he? I guess that puts everyone's frustrations into perspective

Whoa...that's sad. To die right before the final, wow.
Ah well..

he was at least in his mid sixties, the kicker was he smoked two packs of cigs a day. hate to say this but he probably smoked to breathe

I guess that's a pretty reasonable excuse for missing the final. 😱

Smoked to breathe? Huh?

what i meant is the only way he could breathe was through smoking.
