Wtf Uic

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm with you now. Very disappointing. Why do they send the post bacc invite in the large envelope? I was all excited.[/QUO
Have u heard from them yet? I received a conditional acceptance from them... they want me to retake the MCAT.. I wish they could take that back..

what did your status page say? Correspondence sent? Or, a decision has been made.

My sis got the same thing last year. She had a 22 and was told to improve it to a 24.

interesting- people with scores 10 points higher are "on hold"........

excuse me for being bitter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously...

I hope we get good news next week 🙂 but I have that whole OOS thing going for me

ps-Hudson is going to his second puppy class tomorrow

A 24 in order to matriculate?

Let me second that "bitter" comment...

I hope that you guys on hold that have not heard back yet will REALLY soon. (ESPECIALLy since ure scores are much higher than whats apparenty needed to matriculate)

I hate to be the one and say it...but as we all know...it takes more than just a high score to get into medical school. There are probably other reasons why some of you, not all of you, but why some of you have not heard back from them yet (avg. letters of rec., weak interviews 👍 👎 , not enough extracurriculars, volunteering, or research experiences, also what types of life experiences have you had that brought you here, diversity, this list can go on)...so try and not be so bitter towards those students that did not have a score as high as yours. UIC doesn't just let anyone in, so there must be a really good reason why they wouldn't just toss these applicants to the side...these students must have something really good going for them that might also be good for an incoming class. Just a thought.😎

yeah but the 24 came with a healthy serving of a 3.998 G.P.A in Biology and with the other stuff she did thru college.

A 24 is not all that is needed at least thats not what I was implying though it might be if u are outstanding in everything else. With that said, I hope I get an interview soon.............

👍 , well said.

obviously you need more than a 24 to get in- i'm sure she had other great credentials. we all know that this is about far more than scores. point is that the mcat is the "standardized test" that allows for comparison betwen applicants from different schools etc. etc. etc. so a score in the low 20s is pretty much off the charts for any school. it's just surprising. certainly a low score doesn't mean that you aren't intelligent or won't be a great doctor.

say what you want and look at the data- it doesn't fit.

enough said.

First of all, there isn't that huge of a difference between receiving a 24 and a 27 or 28 on the MCAT. It could be just a few questions on each section of the MCAT. Too often people equate their self worth with their MCAT score-- however high or low their score is. A high MCAT score doesn't necessarily translate to success as a physician. The truth is that other qualities, such as empathy, dilligence and communication skills, are far more important in medicine.

Um....cbd is finishing her Ph.D. plus she's normal and personable. She has a right to be bitter.

This process is very random and plenty of qualified/over-qualified applicants can get screwed over.

cbd, I hope you get good news next week :luck:

I agree. I think that sometimes the med school app process can be so not straightforward. I did not get a stellar mcat score, I will say that now. So i empathize with any of those people who do not have like 32's and 33's etc. I do think that a lot of individuals who are empathetic, with good character who also have amazing academic credentials and extra curriculars have been overlooked. I dont know what exactly it is med skools look for but I do know that its really just not straightforward. That being said, I think that each candidate is different and unique. Every student offers something different. And so whoever has the determination and heart for medicine, i believe, will become a doctor. I really do hope that all of u that want to be at UIC next year, will join me there next year!! Everyone seems incredibly intelligent and motivated. Best of luck to u all!!!

I didn't really mean to come off as such a jerk there. While I have a decent mcat score, the rest of my app ISN'T exactly solid. I don't want to denigrate anyone with a lower score--I just thought that 24 seemed a bit TOO low. But i'm not an adcom, so my opinion doesn't matter.

There has to be some pattern/common criterion though, because it's really frustrating when you have everything in your vita and you don't get called. I hate not being able to predict this process! 😡 I don't have anything fantastically unique like setting up a malaria clinic in Botswana or something...but I think there has to be a more transparent process.

Are UIC adcoms meeting this week??

Judging from recent occurences I'm guessing that people should be notified about acceptances and remaining interview invites between the Feb 1-3. Of course now that I think this there is no way its going to happen, but that seems to be how they are opperating, notifying in batches at the beggining of each month.

I just called and asked if the committee had reviewed my application yet, and that was a no (interviewed in mid-December). Then I asked if the committee would be meeting soon (since they refuse to give specific dates), and I was told yes. I asked if the committee was meeting very soon, and again, yes. I think it's safe to say that they are indeed meeting within the next week (I'd also heard the date of 01.29.07 floating around on SDN, but who knows- anyone? anyone?).

I heard the date of the 25th (TODAY!!!), but I dont remember where i got that from...

From the tone of the girl's voice, it was like a "hell yes they're meeting soon aka they're meeting in the room next to me right now" kind of message. So, I'd say today is plausible, too.

Dude, this SUXXX! I called them today (I was complete 01/04/2007); they said that I would get review for another two months at least! They haven't even looked at my app. Does that mean that I don't even stand a chance?!!!!:scared: 😡 👎 👎 👎 👎

Getting a spot at the Chicago campus might be difficult, but don't give up...
Anything is possible!

Anyone know for sure when the February decisions are being mailed out? For some reason I have 2/21 on the brain, but I'm not sure where I heard this...

I think they are meeting on 2/22. I read that somewhere on SDN and it makes sense because they have met on Thursdays in the past. IF they are meeting Thurs., then decisions will be most likely be mailed early next week. Good luck :luck:

Let me say that I am bitter as well. I had a 30/Il resident and rejected without a damn interview. What jerks.

Thanks 🙂

I have a feeling I won't be getting in to UIC and I think the Chicago campus is full 🙁 When is the RFU adcom meeting? I'm really hoping you get an acceptance there :luck:

You never know, you could petition for Chicago. Im not sure when RFU meets, I heard end of this month and mid March.

I interviewed at UIC on Friday, and they said that the UIC campus is currently full, but that there is some turnover in May when people start withdrawing acceptances. I was told that you could petition to go to the UIC campus if you had legitimate reasons...

They meet on Feb. 22 (my advisor at UIUC is on the admissions committee).

Also, it is true what others have been saying about the Chicago campus being full/movement in May/petitions being somewhat effective/etc.

I can't wait to hear back from them--good luck, everyone! 🙂

I would love to get an acceptance but so far only one person has been admitted from the "hold" pile (at least on SDN). I'm not planning on hearing anything until May/June.

Do folks know how long after the meeting it takes them to mail out the letters? Also, does the webpage update right away or does it lag?

Thanks. Sorry to be a nervous nelly...

I was told that it usually takes about a week to update the status pages and send out letters, then it depends on how fast mail gets to you. I interviewed Jan. 10 and she told me to expect a letter during the first week of March.

I didn't notice much of a lag with the site. That being said, it's not very informative, as it will not give your decision. I got my letter 2 days after it changed to "decision made," but I also live just outside the city, so it could take longer.

EDIT: Also, don't bother with a phone call. They don't like to give information out that way (decisions, campus designation, etc.)

It may not be informative, but it'll help me know when to start keeping an eye out for a letter. It'd be nice to just look online to see that a decision has been made so I know to do the compulsive checking of the mailbox.

Crap. I'm a 30/IL resident too, and havn't heard anything yet....
Stupid August MCAT putting me behind. Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

So, who else called today? I'm still in the "the committee hasn't made a final decision on your application post-interview" group. Boo. She said the committee is meeting until April, and is therefore meeting two more times. Anyone know when the NEXT meeting is? This is getting old.

I think they're meeting today.

Yeah, I know they're meeting today....I meant the next meeting as in the meeting in March. Or maybe they havent met yet today and Ill have a decision that is the product of today's discussion and is more favorable next week? Fingers crossed? Man, I totally just got that elevated (and probably false) sense of hope for matriculation again. What a rollercoaster.

has anyone else been complete for almost 4 months without a word? and status says application is in process. They say we haven't looked at your file but it seems like people who applied later have already had interviews? Am i wrong? 😕

UIC has been saying my application is under review and i should expect an interview invite in 2-3 weeks. they have been saying this for like a month...hmm

My file JUST changed from "application" to "applicant" in progress last last week, and I was done early October (due to August MCAT). No interview invite from UIC yet...

Me. I'm OOS with average stats and nothing since being complete since like late Oct./early Nov.

So i just checked online and it says that a final decision was made and to wait for 2 weeks for correspondance. I interviewed late January and they made a relatively quick turnaround with my app--which is surprising from what i've been reading.

but the suspense is killing me.
:scared:
good luck to all. 😉

Best of luck to you. I interviewed the week of January 22nd and mine still says Decision Pending...

I interviewed in DECEMBER and I'm still pending....maybe no decision wasmade on my application after all🙁

Anyone know about what time the committee meets during the day? I'd presumed it was afternoon, but I have no idea why.
