Wtf Uic

I think only 2 people posted on here this year about getting an invitation to the post bacc program instead of an acceptance. While it is not 100% certain that the message means its an acceptance, it is very close to it. Congrats everyone!

reading through some old posts, it seems that some people who received the "final decision" post-interview got accepted to the post-bac program instead of the MD program. i don't even remember anything about a post-bac on the application, and this would be disappointing, anyone have any insight on this?

reading through the posts, it seems like people who got post-back program offers had a status page change a few days after the people who got acceptances...i don't know if that's the trend...but i really hope that we get accepted!

good luck guys!!

I may be totally off here and someone can correct me if I am, but if I remember correctly I thought the post-bac program was only for URM's so if you aren't a URM then you can assume its an acceptance.

i just realized this after making the post

Keep your head up, there is still the April meeting and the acceptance rate at UIC in past years has been between 70% and 80% post-interview the last few years for in-staters. You still have a good shot and I'll be pulling for you.

I'm in the boat with you. I interviewed in October and have been "decision pending" ever since the November meeting.

true, true...maybe we could get a group discount on those little arm floaties so that if our boat totally sinks we can still try and hold our heads above water:laugh:

I absolutely hate to admit this...but I was in that 20-30% last year....I felt I had a great interview, they obviously were okay with my numbers if I was granted an interview, and my application was stacked (not bragging- my graduate program advisor actually said that!). Go figure. I'm also not hot shot enough for them to downright not want me (like I'd be too good for them and they thought I'd go somewhere else). Really, I think UIC is a perfect fit for me...unfortunately the feeling wasn't mutual. I hope they changed their minds this year:scared:

The part that blows is that I don't know what particularly is wrong with my application.. so if I don't get in (which is starting to look more and more like a possibility) I don't know what to do to change my application .. Hoping UIC will pull through

Exactly my case, too....and not only is it me that's clueless about what's wrong with my application, my GPD doesn't know, my medical school advisor didn't know, and even after I spoke with some Deans of Admissions (places where I've already been rejected this year)- they didn't have any advice to offer! 😱 So, that leaves us where?...😕

hey guys

I had my UIC interview today and the dean of admissions hooked us up with some good stats and dates.

The next adcom meeting will not be until near the end of april.

After that the next meeting will be after May 15, again near the end of the month.

They interview ~800 people (total, in state and out) for 300 spots.

They usually accept about 550/800 to fill up these spots.

Of the current people accepted (they have offered somewhere btwn 300 -400 so far); 2/3 of them also hold a spot at another medical school (as reported to UIC from AAMC).

Also, last year they offered too many acceptances and ended up with a class of 325. This year they made a vow to have a class of 300 +/- 5. So they are being alot LESS liberal with the acceptances, especially until after the May 15 date.

That should be some good info to keep this thread bumpin' 👍

Thanks for the info! You mentioned that the admissions committee can find out which accepted applicants hold a spot at another medical school. Can the committee also find out which interviewed (but not yet accepted) applicants hold a spot at another medical school?

:luck: mdapp06

I hope if they can they see I'm going nowhere right now and really need the shoutout lol!

Also, this year the number of applicants increased from 5800 (last year)--->7200(this year).
So to those of you who got interviews; good job!

No i'm pretty positive they don't have the info as to where you have interviewed. They do to where you have applied.
Even with the acceptances, I don't know if they to which school or just that you have one... the dean just mentioned that stat in his speech. i didn't even know that they had access to this info until today.

yeah, apparently that's a new thing this year. usually that information is released right around the may 15 deadline (so schools can keep track of accepted applicants and make sure they are sticking to only 1 school). i guess they decided to release it about 2 months earlier this year.

If you haven't received an interview yet, then are you pretty much out of the game?

from what i remember, they are interviewing into May, and when I got the invite, I was able to schedule an interview in the same week (although I opted for the week after)...so my guess is that there are still invitations to be sent :luck:

That's odd. They told me that the number of application to U of I (all campuses) went from 4200 last year to 6100 this year! I guess I am only ever going to trust the actual acceptance letter. Everyone (including the deans) are throwing different numbers at us! 😳

At least you guys had numbers (even if they are contradictory)- I interviewed at Rockford and we got nothing in terms of numbers of applicants, current status, historical data- NADA. SO- if the numbers provided are true, they've moved their 20-30% non-acceptance range out to 32% now? (550/800)...dang kids, it's looking more and more bleak by the day. Gulp.

Sounds good. I just got rejected to all post-interview schools. I have yet to hear from UIC. I'm out of state unfortunately, but I do attend UIUC. I guess there is a little bit of hope left, but I guess a year off won't be that bad.

Thanks!

um, i dont think they've reviewed my file even once..
i was file complete on jan, 11

Dear Applicant to the Entering Class of 2007:

Due to the significant increase in the number of applicants to our college
(a 23% increase over 2006), the review process is lagging behind. Since
you submitted your application materials before the deadline, we are
committed to reviewing your application.

I ask for your patience as we attempt to complete this portion of the process. You will be notified through the Office of Medical College Admissions
about your status as soon as humanly possible.

Thank you again for your interest in the UIC College of Medicine.

Got the same email.

I sent my stuff in a couple months earlier than you guys and didnt even get that email.

Got the same email.

ditto
I'm not waiting on UIC any more, but I actually appreciated the email. Now I know they'll at least look at my application before rejecting me. It's a comforting feeling.

Yea my post was right bc if u do the math according to the fact that apps increased 23% this year, my numbers amount to 24% increase.
Yours indicate a 45% increase.
Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, i was just wondering if i was. Also, I just wanted to know the right answer. 👍

I just got off the phone with UIC again- blah, no decision on my application yet. The girl did say, however, that the committee will be meeting at least twice more before May 15. I presumed only once, so I guess that's a good thing- there's plenty more decisions to be made.👍

I wonder though.. I was under the impression at my interview.. that if you got reviewed and no decision was rendered they stick you back into the "review in May" category where you are then either accepted, rejected, and waitlisted...and not in the consistently review category. Perhaps I could have been mistaken.. anybody have any insight?

PS why can't I just get an outright acceptance geesh!

I'm not sure about that- some people are reviewed twice and were then accepted. Presumably, if they were reviewed once and stuck in the May batch, they wouldn't have heard yet. True? Either way, I know that acceptance hasn't fallen in my lap yet (and I doubt it will fall there, either- I'll probably have to grab it from AdCom hands and run like the devil:laugh: )

Could you grab one for me while you're at it?! I'd appreciate it! 😀

my file hasnt come back from review yet.. but at least they tell me that much, which is better than rush

anyone living near chicago receive anything in the mail yet?

I live in Naperville, IL (like, suburb 40 min outside chicago) and I haven't gotten anything yet. Haven't gotten the mail today though, will definitely post when I get something.

I hope she knows what she's talking about....
the dean of admissions (the guy who wrote those letters some people got emailed to them) told us 1x before may 15.
He said end of april, end of may.

I'll second that- I live right outside city limits and I've received nothing lately. When I do (if I do) I'll post something, too.

i received an interview invite reminder yesterday.. strange because i never received the first invite. turns out they invited me via snail in october.. anyway, i will be interviewing on april 10th. when i called to schedule, she said i will be interviewing for a seat, not for the waitlist and that there are still seats available in all campuses-- just to let you all know the latest. i dont know how this makes sense considering someone said that chicago was full. I guess i'll find out at my interview! i really hope there are spots still for chicago!

i'm OOS btw.

Yeah. I'm in!! Got it in the mail today.

Application status says this:

"A final decision was made on your application on 03-26-07. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

I live in the city, so maybe the rest of you who were reviewed in March will get your packets soon!

woohoo!! great news, congratulations 👍

Naperville, IL

Hmm...I got a status change for a final decision that was made on 3/28/2007 as opposed to 3/26. Is this bad?
