(I posted this in the residency page, but perhaps people are more familiar with the current app process here).

I am currently at a crossroad concerning what to do with the rest of my summer before MS2.

I was wondering how valuable 6 weeks of research can be. I already have 3 years of research experience as a Specialist with 2 publications prior to entering medical school.

The other option would be just shadowing, traveling around the world, and visiting my grandparents in Korea for (possibly the last) the first time in 20 years.

Would you recommend I pursue the research?

Do the research. Who cares that you HAVENT SEEN YOUR GRANDPARENTS IN TWENTY YEARS AND MIGHT NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN? All that matters is working with a specialist!

Seriously the **** is wrong with you?

Go to Korea!

It'll make for a more interesting summer. Much better than spending your free time in some lab which seems like you're only doing just do pad your resume.

if you don't do summer research you won't match anywhere, just a forewarning

Sounds like you already have a good amount of research experience. Enjoy yourself.

Survivor DO

Korea.

Unless you know you will get a 1st author paper published in Nature/NEJM/Science/JBC/AHA/JNsurg/etc...

Worried about your grandparents health? Go visit them. Doesn't mean you have to stay the full 2 months or whatever. Could still come back and shadow if you still wanted to.
