I get tingly every time I think about this fine school.(Just had to get that out of the way)

Xavier University of Louisiana has been placing the most African Americans into medical school than any other university in the united states for 10 CONSECUTIVE years. If that ain't commendable then I don't know what is!

This year it looks like they're doing it again. Here: http://www.xula.edu/premed/Statistics/Acceptances1011.html You can see that already 18 of their students have been accepted to medical school, dental school etc. (and that's not including pharmacy students) and keep in mind that the school only has 3000 students!

Are there any Xavier Students that currently attend the school or have attended the school. I live in Atlanta and am heavily considering going here or Morehouse (Both of which have about 3000 students and excellent premed programs). I would greatly your posts about your experiences and thoughts about the school.

i used to teach the mcat at xavier through the princeton review. some of the kids i taught were in some kind of a program that guarantees acceptance to tulane, but b/c tulane is expensive they were taking the mcat to see if they could go to lsu-no instead.

this is a school with a pretty good reputation within the city of new orleans as is lsu in baton rouge and tulane. i had never heard of it before i moved to new orleans but from what i gathered it seemed like a friendly place. although it was i guess a historically black college, there were a lot more diversity than i had expected.

idk if you can establish residency in LA, but if you could see yourself living in new orleans or louisiana in general, then you have an advantage in getting into the state medical schools. tulane is pretty expensive although the medical school is located in downtown which is nice. but so is lsu new orleans med. center. from what the students were telling me tulane took more out of state students.

now, i had heard of morehouse before i moved to new orleans. im not sure which is better or worse though.

btw i love new orleans it's a great city. good food good people ms.mae's

I had never heard of XULA until I met two lovely girls who are pre-med students there at an internship I did this past summer. They were both very bright and had wonderful things to say about the school. I looked it up myself and apparently XULA is very strong in the sciences and is one of few (or maybe the only) HBCU that is ALSO Roman Catholic.

I'm a junior at Tulane and I can vouch for Xavier, good school.

👍 love NOLA

which other schools is the OP expecting to be ahead of Xavier? Are there other historically-black schools with a larger student body than Xavier?

Yeah in Louisiana you have to graduate from a high school in the state or be married to somebody that was born in the state in order to get accepted to their medical schools.

i know someone who did teach for america in new orleans i think he got residency b/c he worked there for the two years in tfa he was applying for lsu-no
