hi everyone,
i'll be heading over to yale in about a week. do people have any advices/commments about the school? also, i heard the dorm room comes bare (no sheets, blankets, etc.)? they told me take the ct limo from the airport, and then take a cab from the bus stop to the dorm. how do i get a cab from the bus stop?
i'd appreciate any suggestions! =)

dorm rooms are definitely furnished w/ sheets/towels and are really nice. Be prepared for coed showers. :)

LOL that's wonderful
what about the interview itself then? anything i should be aware of besides knowing the yale system like the back of my hand?
thanx for the info! :p

CO-ED SHOWERS?!?!?!? Yale is my new top choice!!!he he

I think that, at any given time in any given shower, there is generally just one gender, but the point is that that isn't dictated ahead of time. :) About Yale interview . . .PM me if you have specific questions. Interviews are similar to other places (i.e. it depends who you get), but at Yale I think the consensus seems to be that they know all know your file VERY well and are really probing with their ?s.

My interviews at Yale were pretty laid back. I interviewed with an assistant dean and a fifth-year student. Both seemed to have read my file thoroughly, and both were extremely nice. Other people in my batch of applicants had people who were not quite so warm. As a previous poster said, it all depends on who you get. I had a very positive experience overall.

Hey all,
Did any of you stay in a hotel rather than in the dorms?

I think that CT limo will drop you off in the Long Wharf section of New Haven. There is a building there where you can call 777-7777 for a cab to the med school.

I stayed with friends who live in the area and work at Yale. If it was a choice b/w a hotel and a dorm room in Harkness, I would take the dorm room. Much cheaper.

thanx for posting guys!
any of you heard back from them yet? if so, how long did it take? congrats to anyone who has received the good news!

Yale is definitely not rolling; My understanding is that they will send out their decisions in mid to late March.

oh yeah, my bad! silly me

I was in the dorms for one night and then did priceline to get a hotel for the next night.

Someone wrote on interviewfeedback not to stay in the dorms b/c it will steal your soul...I thought that was foolishness until I got there. DO NOT...I REPEAT...DO NOT!!!! stay in their dorms. Blah! It was horrible and if I ever went to yale I would most definitely live off campus and not in those dorms...

Scooby,

Why was it so bad? If I do get into Yale <short prayer break>, I wouldn't live there, just because I think it would have a little too much of an undergrad feel. Why did you hate it so much?

scooby & coalboy,
would you elaborate more on the dorm experience? i'm getting a lil confused here. grasshopper seem to think it was quite nice. coalboy thinks it's not so bad? how does it "steal your soul"?!?!

come to stanford if you want coed showers. i've got one just two doors down. and yes, there have been more than one gender in one stall at one particular time. seriously

That's pretty strange. I can understand why us guys wouldn't mind it. :D I'm suprized some women haven't complained, but... :D

Strange. But good strange. :D

•••quote:•••coalboy thinks it's not so bad?••••I never even saw the dorms, so I have no idea what they are like. I was just wondering why Scoob thought they were comparable to the festering pits of Hades.

Oh, and we had co-ed showers at my school too, but I can't say I remember any such hijinks. Not that I would have minded participating...

You know what they say; Save water. Shower with a friend.

erm.. night

alright guys, i've enjoyed the comments about the showers etc, but on a more serious note, what kind of experiences have you guys had at yale? what did you like and dislike about the place when you interviewed?

i have had coed showers and bathrooms throughout college. it's wild. and kinda weird.

anyway, does anyone know when yale stops sending out invites for interview? i have pretty much given up all hope on getting one and was wondering when i could make it official.

thanks

lollipop,

Sorry about the shower tangent. You should know how threads on SDN tend to degenerate quickly. :)

My interviews were pretty laid back, though some people in my group were not so lucky. If you do the morning session, the day starts pretty early (7:45), but you're done with your interviews before lunch, which I like. Then you can relax for the tour and everything else.

I really didn't see much of anything that I didn't like about Yale. The facilites are top notch, the students seem to be very happy, the Yale System is well thought out, etc. It seems like a really nice place.

grasshopper, just pm'ed you!

Yale was great. After my interview there it was my top choice med school. I loved the campus, the students, and the atmosphere.

I thought the Yale system was the greatest thing ever invented...

and then UPenn stole my heart. I started to have my doubts about the Yale system. Started wondering if the No exam policy would give me more than enough rope to hang myself with. I also realized that New Haven is in BFE. There's nothing around it, and nothing to do there.

let's just hope that i will actually have the chance to make a decision between yale and other schools!
i think this'll be my very last one after this loooooong process, and i'm getting nervous about it. i really hope it all ends well!
best of luck to all!

That's funny UCLA2000, because something similar happened to me with Yale/UPenn after interviewing at both places, though not to the same degree. I think Penn and Yale are now both high on my list. Now here's for hoping that I'm high on theirs...
