Does anyone happen to know where I can find an academic calendar for Yale School of Med? I was wondering when their orientation is for 2006-2007. Do they start the first week of August?

Thanks!

I wouldn't mind knowing that, either.

I'd also like to know if I've been bloody farking accepted, but I guess that's going to have to wait a little while yet.

🙄 🙁 😡 😱 😕 :meanie: :scared: 😳

They probably know already, MM, and they're just reading your thread and chuckling while rubbing their hot little hands together. :meanie:

For crying out loud, my interview was 146 days ago. I would hope they'd have figured out their opinion of me by now.

I think they have, too. It's just to torture you. Why? Because they can. 😉 😀 Don't worry....it won't be long until you hear now. :luck:

If I ever get involved in admissions, I can't decide if I want to be the humane reformer or the vengeful sadist. 😕

BTW, ChocolateKiss, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. My bad. Luck to you! :luck: :luck:

An interesting tidbit: I caught Dean Silverman betwee things at one point one my interview day, and told me that they're spending the first couple weeks of this month ranking every single interviewee from 1 to 750 or however many they inerviewed. Can you imagine being in the room for those hair-splitting discussions? whew...

:wow:

It always freaks me out when I think about the fact that there are strangers across the country sitting in rooms and talking about me. It just feels weird to contemplate.

They should include this information on the decision letter. Can you imagine being #750/750?

Ha ha ha. That would make me cry.

Question- are we certain about the Mar 31 notification date? That's the last thing I heard (on SDN)...

well, it would suck more to be #accepted + 1/750.... 🙄

Does anyone know if there have been any leaks of information early in previous years for Yale (i.e. similar to the financial aid access for Harvard)? I haven't posted on SDN for a while, but I am also getting very anxious about hearing back from Yale. :luck: to all those waiting with me!

Why not do both? Be a non-rolling school, but have a rolling decision date that you don't tell anyone. :meanie: Some years, you can send out decisions in Oct.; other years, you can wait until March. 😛 And definitely make sure to have one of your minions post here on SDN several false rumors about when decisions will actually go out.

I find this information odd. I know Yale tries to balance their class like most med schools do, and that means they could not just rank people and take the top scores, right? Also, are boys and girls ranked separately, because don't they end up with exactly 50 boys and 50 girls?

Don't try to figure them out. You'll only hurt yourself. Every time I see your ID it makes me want to eat chocolate....

Mmmm CHOCOLATE. I love chocolate. I make chocolate goodies all the time to share with my dormmates- chocolate brownies, chocolate cookies, sometimes even chocolate candies. Chocolate can get you through the stress of med school apps too. I'm just glad I have a high metabolism, or else I would get fat with all this chocolate 😀

oooooh same here. this past christmas, i got into confectioning. was up for 20+ hours making truffles, caramels, nougats, nuts and creams instead of studying for finals 😳. in total, i madearound 500 pieces of candy to give as gifts (spent 50 bucks for 20 people 😀 ) and vowed that i'd never do it again. the funny thing is, i'l probably end up doing the same next christmas for whoever i end up being friends with at med school...what can i say? i'm a masochist.

Hmm, maybe we should go to med school together. We could have chocolate study parties...

You are my new best friend. I hope we go to med school together. 😍

As for me, I am really looking forward to Easter. Anyone else here like to raid the local Wal-Mart for half-price Easter candy the day afterward???

I didn't get a chance to see the dorms during my interview day. I hear Yale has the nicest dorms of any med school though 🙂 ...which I assume would include kitchens.

We'd love to have a third member for our chocolate parties. The more the merrier!

they do... the decor makes it feel warm in there. plus the rooms are huge (in comparison to hopkins' tiny cells)

I remember seeing a kitchen in the dorm... it looked... adequate.

(I'm so spoiled. I have this absofrigginlutely amazing kitchen right now and it's going to break my heart to leave it. Possibly more than leaving my boyfriend will.)

You all make the chocolatey goodness, I'll cook dinner. Sound fair?

Oh, and I thought I saw somewhere that they were emailing the decisions as well as snail mailing them... does anyone know if there's any truth to that?

I read Mar 31 on one SDN thread (email and mail).

I know MSTP decisions are a smail/email combo on the 28th.

Yeah, they email and snailmail. at least that's what they said when I interviewed.

As for the dorms, I know some M1's there now and they said to avoid them and live off campus. They're not really that nice (compared to living off campus) and you HAVE to have a meal plan in the dining hall. which doesn't have great food. that alone would convince me to live off campus. there are some apartment building really nearby that are reasonably priced and lots of med students/residents live there.

Also, one M1 I talked to said that they do rank everyone in numerical order. There are a few categories - scores/grades, EC's, etc, and interest in medicine/Yale or something like that. So you get a number for each of those, add it up, and end up on the long list of everyone who interviewed.

I called today, and it seems they only send the email to accepted/waitlisted folks. The rest of us will find out via snail mail. Two more weeks. Sigh.

Did they tell you what date these emails are going out?

Also, any idea when Yale's 2nd look weekend is?

Nope... Grace said she didn't know yet.

Actually, will someone who's not me call in and ask how many interviews were granted this year, and how many they're accepting? Or is that info they generally don't disclose?

I think we should not call them any more and just wait the two weeks. It's already been five months; what's two more weeks at this point? :meanie: 🙄 And better to let them spend their time stuffing the envelopes instead of answering the phones.

last year they interviewed 811 and accepted 218...i'm guessing it's similar for this year.

I think decisions go out next Friday! That's what I heard around campus.

I'm pretty sure they only accept 100 to begin with since that's the size class they want. Then, each time someone drops their acceptance they take the next person off the waitlist. So the number they accept in the end varies year to year. Also, I think if you're near the top of the waitlist they'll email you saying that there's a good chance you'll be accepted soon.

YAY!!!!

06- You better not be getting my hopes up falsely for next Friday...Or else you can't join in our chocolate party at Harkness next year. 😉

Pssst...I heard it from this guy selling crack rocks in a dark corner in the apartment wing of Harkness. Pass it on... 😉

Does anyone know for a fact when we'll receive these emails/letters? I've read the 28th and 31st from various people. I think everyone is just guessing. I'll cross my fingers everyone is wrong and that I'll get an email on Monday. But does anyone know for real?

28th is for MSTP.

Wow, that's a pretty good wait for the MSTP bunch.

And I'm down for the chocolate parties, too...I'll bring a bottle or two of wine to go with everything.

hmmmm... are chocolate martinis any good?
