So im applying in the upcoming cycle and have a sci/cgpa of 3.7

However im worried about the mcat which i will be taking next month and just want to be realistic. Say if i dont get in the next cycle, should i apply for a masters program? Or just take the year to beast the mcat?

Will adcom look down on me not doing anything class wise? I will still be working as a scribe and potentially doing community service.

Why not reschedule your MCAT for may or June so you can study more? It's 250 but that's much cheaper than waiting a year. Besides you should not need a year to study for the MCAT, an extra couple of months is sufficient.

I second what the above poster said. How are your practice scores? A June MCAT is still a ways away and isn't particularly late. Just get your AACOMAS app completed with MCAT date pending.

It's not a problem to skip coursework during a gap year. You just did 4 years of classes and are about to do 2 more in med school. I am working in a hospital doing research/ volunteering/ tutoring and this was very well received.

Just move your MCAT back if you aren't ready.

For the current app cycle, not doing anything won't hurt you. If you have to reapply, it might. But it sounds like you're going to be doing plenty anyway.

I think it is only 50$ or something to change the date, not 250. Agree with all the other advice. Just dont keep pushing it back. I did that the first time I took it and kept not studying as much as I should. If you pick that June date force yourself to really take it that day.

I think it depends on what your scores are on the MCAT. If they are to your satisfaction, then go ahead. Personally, I would also plan for some classes in the event you don't have success. This is more or less how I did things. I kept applying but kept taking classes / research also.

I was in your position...3.7 cum, and a 3.6 science, but terrible mcat...i ended up going to a MS program and am now at Tufts in Boston in the MBS program, and now got in after this.

PM me if you want more info on my approach

It's 90$ to change the MCAT date. I've done it twice already 🙁

I just want to know why you did a MS? I mean your GPA is already good for DO (before your masters), why risk it with taking a MS? And not to mention the extra $$? Did you not get in with those stats (prior to MS)?
