I kind of hate 'what are my chances' threads, but there's not a lot of info in this forum advising prospective applicants that I've seen. This is actually for a friend- goes to a UC school (not UCSF/UCLA), 250 boards, a couple research projects in peds (non-published, but presented and won some small awards), involved in other little volunteer activities, honors in path, no honors thus far 3rd year.

The person loves CA, but is definitely open-minded about other big cities with solid programs. Any advice about # of programs and specific programs? I assume the big name programs are similar across specialties, but appreciate any advice.
