If I indicated on my AMCAS application that I'm taking the August MCAT, does that mean no processing and hence, no interviews for me until August MCAT has been released? Even if I'm "complete" and met or exceeded the average stats at some of these schools? 😕

I doubt schools will offer you an interview w/o seeing your MCAT score.

Have you taken a previous MCAT? If not, you haven't met their stats yet.

Even if you have, I have been told that if you select the August test taker tab that your app will not be looked at until the scores come out.

Is it still possible to be counted as applying early in this sense? Forgive me, I'm a newb as far as the application process. I'm a non-trad taking my pre-reqs now and will have to take the MCAT next August as a result. I want to get the benefit of applying early!

In what sense? Your application won't be "complete" until your MCAT scores are in. If you take the August MCAT you won't get the benefit of applying early for that app. cycle.

generally schools will hold your application and not review it until they receive your august MCAT. But, with the way the new computer test will work, this shouldn't be a problem anymore, as the turnaround is quicker with scores, and you could take the test earlier in the summer and have your scores back in time to still apply early.

Thanks. I might take the MCAT earlier...depends on how I'm doing on the practice tests. I will be taking Org Chem II over the summer, so I may just have to settle for applying a little later with good cause.

In what sense? Your application won't be "complete" until your MCAT scores are in. If you take the August MCAT you won't get the benefit of applying early for that app. cycle.

You won't be early, but there is still a queue at some schools. Eg. If you get complete the day the MCAT scores come out, you will be toward the end of the line of the August MCAT folks, which could mean a couple more interview dates you won't be in consideration for, that others who took that test but had everything else in earlier might. Sooner is still better at some places.

You're going to take Organic II in a full length summer session, or in a 1 monthish mini semester?

You'll have to start studying for the MCAT while completing organic. That is tricky, because you definitely want an A in organic, but you for sure want to do well on the MCAT.

Full length summer session. I am working full time, volunteering, and only taking one class as a result. I am studying for the MCAT now! I will continue to do so until the day I take it. I've been averaging probably about 1.5 hrs daily studying for it in one form or fashion. I know orgo 2 is hard, but I won't settle for below an A. As a non-traditional and engineer, I'll have to do everything I can to prove I'm dedicated to these courses. My GPA isn't stellar, about a 3.5 and showed a downward trend in undergrad.

I think you're doing too much. You need to chill out next summer, there is no point in working, volunteering, shadowing that much. There is a point of diminishing returns with volunteer and shadowing experience. Once you have say 50-100 hours volunteering, and several experiences with a doctor, it isnt like a few more is going to be so important. However, studying for the MCAT knows no bounds. There are so many subjects to master that I think you would be much better off spending your time studying for that, instead of doing extra EC's.
