Yet another low RC practice exam?

I took another Reading Comprehension exam from Bootcamp and did miserably once again. Each time that I have taken a new exam, I have tried a new method. I wanted to see which would work and which would not. I have tried reading the article and then answering the questions and that did not work. I have tried jotting down a few words next to each paragraph number and that did not work. And now I just tried jotting down key terms from each question and reading the article through and placing the number of the corresponding paragraph next to a key phrase.

I am extremely concerned that I will not perform well on this section of the DAT. I am an avid reader in general, but I find that my biggest problem is time.

Please offer some advice.

If your biggest problem is time, then you need to become faster at reading. Try incorporating an article or two from Scientific American every day, with the intent to read and understand as quickly as you can that day. Over time that will definitely increase your reading speed. Once you can read and comprehend quickly, then read the entire article before answering the RC questions.

Personally I found search and destroy to waste too much time, as some of the questions I was asked required me having read the entire article. I'd recommend going through the article at least once before you attempt to answer the questions.

Problem is I have been reading two or three articles every day. Just not seeing improvement.

Here's what I did to score a 23 in RC (along with what I did for every other section). If you have questions, just reply to my thread. DAT Done: 25AA, 24 TS, 25 PAT; 3 week study Schedule

One thing that I would do as well is understand you are not going to have your strategy optimized on the first setting. It will take time to get comfortable doing search and destroy, reading/skimming the whole things, etc. It does take some time to get good at that part as well.

Search and destroy all the way. I finished my RC section with 15 minutes to spare. Ended up with a 26.

Just scored a 21 on my first RC practice test, but all points were lost on the first two articles where I tried to read the entire article then answer questions afterwards. On the third article, I switched to mapping and didn't miss one point. I'm a slow reader, so this method is nice because it forces you to jot down a few words per paragraph, engraining the paragraph's idea into your head. Then, the questions are easy to breeze through. This is what I'll be using from now on (hopefully), and I recommend that you try to practice this method as well
