Hello all!

I have interviews coming up in Columbia and UConn. Is there any advice anyone can give me... ?

For those who interviewed there, what did you think of the schools? Were the students happy? Do they feel like they were being treated fairly?
Did the faculty seem supportive of the students?
How did they treat the applicants?
What were the facilities like?
Did they make you feel relaxed during the interview... or was it like an interrogation?
For Columbia, was safety a concern? How did the school address it?

I am a bit nervous.. hence the many questions. Thanks all!

Hi Topher,

Congrats on getting interview invitations! I didnt interview with Colombia but I was interviewed at UCONN in early Nov, the following link is my experience:

UCONN is definitely in a safe neighborhood. it seems pretty quiet there. my interview was intense, more like an interrogation; the students seem nice enough, but i dont feel like it's the school for me. there are 2 faculty members that will be asking you questions from everything you've ever sent to them -- at least that happened to me. but dont get too freaked out! the important thing to remember at the interview is that to stay CALM, and ASK QUESTIONS about the schools. some to ask are...the faculty to students ratio in clinics, the availabilty of patients, community services, summer research opportunities, the big brother/big sister support, transcribing service, and ask the interviewers one thing they'd change about their school if they were the dean. I hope my response help to ease the nervousness a bit 🙂 good luck with your application!

I am a first year at UConn. It is quite the tough program. Have to know EVERYTHING the med. students do. Good for Nat'l Boards...bad for...uh...everything else? Want to specialize, this is the place. We are one of the top matching schools for specialties and also one of the top in board scores. Like to work really hard and know more than your friends at other schools? This is the place. I'm having fun, but it's not for everyone. Shared hatred of the amount of work we have to do and the ridiculous detail we have to know creates bonds of love, or something. I'll be very happy, though, when I get my board scores back. No time now, though...Head and Neck anatomy exam Monday!! Any questions, email me at [email protected]

I'm coming to UCONN this August and I'm just wondering where the best place to live. I want to live close to the health center and probably with roommates (cheaper). Any recommondations?

Most people with your situation try to move together into "The Forest", which is a group of condos right across from the Health Center. If you have roommates it is really quite reasonable and you can't beat the location as far as distance. There are other apartments around...wait until UConn sends you the housing guide deal later in the spring b/c it has a whole lot of info plus they have a roommate mtaching service type of thing. Try to say out of New Britain if at all possible. 😉
