Hi all,

I am trying to collect the maximum number of opinions on this issue as I am over the edge of making some big decisions...

I am a non-resident for a school which has put me on an alternate list... This list was just made last week.. The school is done interviewing people and they informed me that I am #1 on the list... They also offer only 10 positions for out-of-staters...

According to the letter I have, if they take any non-resident off that list, it should be me... In addition, this list is the first one for this season... so, no one was taken off the list yet this year...

Can I really count on this for making big decisions? Can I assume an acceptance to the school?
I will take in as many votes as I can get, cause I am trying to make some big decisions in my life... Thank you so much for all of your help..

didn't u already post about this before?

anyway.. it would help if you told us which school... so we would know the type of waitlist movement that happens at that school.

further... this is prolly a question better asked to the school (as someone already told u the last time u posted this question). call the school and ask them how much waitlist movemtn happens and if last year they used the out of state wiatlist to accept people.

Can't you just accept the offers you have gotten, and when you find out for sure if you're in at this school, you can withdraw your acceptances from the other schools. There's still a lot of time before anything permanent happens.

First off, I want to say yeah for you !

It sounds like even though you did not get an acceptance, you made a big accomplishment. My advice is to plan like you are not accepted, then when you do change your plans. It is in no way over yet and nothing is set in stone. Until you have that letter and have money down, the game is still going. One thing I have learned thru all this, is that it is a huge gamble and there are few certainties. But, be happy for your situation, you seem to have a real shot. Good luck to you. I am sure that your gut will tell you the right things to do. Overall, relax and be happy, there is little you can do at this point. Just enjoy the sweet thought on being number 1 (it just sounds so good)!

being number one is really nice but before anything can be said about whether or not to think of this as an acceptance...it all depends on what school it is and how they move their waitlist historically. in general i would have to say that most schools do take people off the waitlist and you being number one just helps you out.

being a non resident...other non residents might not go there because of tuition costs opening up a spot for you. but like i said and some of the others here have said...depends on what school it is.

Again,

Don't withdraw other acceptances you have, still goto interviews until you get the acceptance letter of UND in your hands.

563....
I wouldn't worry too much- there are quite a few out of state slots and I KNOW there is movement there- ppl with mulitple acceptances. I would definitely keep the other interviews though- Always nice to have options.

I called them, and they were really nice...

She did not say that I was accepted explicitly... At first, she said that I might have to wait a while till april or even may before I hear back from them.

She said that they move their list, but usually it is not a rapid movement... Then, she asked me if I was the first on the list, and I said yes... She said that I would probably hear back alot sooner... She was assuming that I was 5th or 6th on the list.

My annalysis to this conversation is if the 5th or 6th on the list hear back by april or may, then any higher ranks would have alot more luck...

Does that sound like an implicit acceptance to any of you? I know for sure it is not an official one... But, based on this phone conversation, can I say it is a matter of time? She said that I could check back by middle of february, because of my position on that list. What do you guys think?

Thank you so much...
