Not sure what to do at this point. It's pretty late in the cycle, and I'm starting to lose hope that I'll get off one of my waitlists. Does anyone know how often people hear back from waitlists at this point? 🙁 Any advice? I've sent each school 2 update letters so far.

Depends on where you're waitlisted, how many people are on the waitlist, whether that school overaccepts by a large amount or not. It is possible for people to be accepted off the waitlist into the first week of classes, though that is unlikely. From reading school-specific discussion threads, it seems to me that a lot of schools are having less waitlist movement so far this year than what has been normal for the past few years. There could be a number of reasons for this.

I would not send any more updates at this point. There is very little you can do to improve your chances of getting off a waitlist at most schools. There are a few who are quite receptive to updates and letters of interest. Do you have a backup plan for this upcoming year to improve your application? Or have you been making improvements for the past year, and do you plan on reapplying this cycle?

I got an email from trinity medical school, telling me that if I didn't get in anywhere I could apply this summer (application fee waved = sweeeeet!!) to start in the fall. No interview needed! A pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

Kidding, don't fall for that trap. But I did really get that email (twice). Try calling the schools you're waitlisted at -- and if they don't tell you top 1/3 or 1/4th start preparing your amcas +aocomas (whatever the DO app service is called)

lmao I got those emails from Trinity as well! sounds good to me. see ya'll there in August?

anyway, OP im in the exact same position. I already sent in my AMCAS and am preparing AACOMAS for this year with a new personal statement and several new ECs. at this point I recommend you do the same! especially since so many schools like to remain mysterious when it comes to their waitlists and literally tell you NOTHING. no i'm not bitter.

it depends on the school. some have waitlists that move a lot, others not so much. there's still time but it might be prudent to start preparing for next year. i was planning on resubmitting by the beginning of july and start working on my secondaries mid june. good luck op!

I've heard of people getting in off the waitlist a week or so before orientation. However, those stories are few and far between. There is a chance that you could hear from a school this summer, though, so I wouldn't lose hope quite yet. But do you have backup plans for this coming year? Look into one-year jobs (preferably in the sciences, if you can), SMPs or other masters programs, or some sort of clinical experience. Being a reapplicant isn't necessarily a bad thing but you need to use this year wisely.

Were there any obvious weaknesses in your application? Now might be a good time to look over your application (and your assessment of interviews) to see where you can improve.

Just wondering, what's your stats?(gpa,sgpa,mcat,ec's)
