My brother has a generalized epilepsy called Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME)featuring tonic clonic and myoclonic seizures. He was taking Depakote for this, but weight gain is a side effect of Depakote, and he wanted to try something else. His neurologist put him on Zonegran and lowered his dosage of Depakote. He had a reallly bad reaction to this medicine that put him in the pyschaitric ward at at the UNC medical hospital. I was wondering if any 4th year pharmacy students could tell me if Zonegran is use on a regular basis for JME. My neurologist said she usually prescribes Depakote or Lamictal. I think his neurologist didn't now what he was doing. Your feedback would be most appreciated.
