Hi guys! Just checking in to see if anyone has any questions about the school and the area. I'm a first year at NYMC and absolutely love it here. I fell in love with the school at my interview and couldn't be happier with my decision. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

1. I emailed my student host this past week and haven't gotten a response. My interview is September 10, but I wanted to make sure I'd have a place to stay on Sept. 9. Did I scare him away?

2. I'm flying into LaGuardia at 8:30pm. Will there be sufficient public transportation to get me to White Plains, then when there, do cabs still run around 10:30pm? I'm planning on getting to Grand Central Station, then taking the White Plains-North rail (something like that) to White Plains.

3. I'm really excited for this interview! Do you have any golden bits of info/advice for interview day?

4. What excites you most about NYMC? What excites you least?

I'll leave it at that for now!

2. When I went to NYC I pretty much did the same route. Subway from Airport --> Grand central. Train to valhalla. Bus to the school. It was easy (albeit a little long).

I am also interviewing on the 10th and I'm flying to White Plains. I'm sure your student host is just busy being a medical student. I would maybe send a follow up email by mid week

1st Question: when finishing the application, the site takes you back to the office of admissions website. When you click on the secondary application portion on the right bar, it has three links available, instructions, beginning the application, and checking the status. You can check the status of your application via the third link. My status page displays the date the application fee was received the day I submitted it.

2nd Question: N/A

Just to reiterate, it took them 19 days to complete my application. I am unsure as to what order they do it.

Thanks TxResident for your response. My status page does not display the date I submitted my secondary app. I guess they have to receive and process my fee waiver request that I sent in by mail before they update my status page that my secondary was submitted....

Does anyone know if a 6PM flight out of HPN is cutting it too close?

Also, the NYMC website says cab fare from the school to HPN is about $30-$40 but others have told me about $20. Does anyone have more accurate info on this?

To be honest I don't know, Im flying out at 7:37pm. I researched it and I found the cab fare would be around $25-30. But thats just an estimate

do i have zero chance if i did not get a letter from my major department? i really wanted to get into NYMC. never heard of a school requiring this...

It's just a guess, but I'd assume they treat it the same as if you were missing any other required letter. You're still in consideration, but your application is considered weaker (as discovered by someone else in this thread who called admissions). Hopefully your stats are strong enough to make up for the loss. I'm not sure if mine is, but heres to hoping! :xf:

Hey all of you who are scheduled to interview Sept 10, would you guys mind posting your experience with MMI's/ the whole day when you are done?

Good luck to all of you with II as well as those still waiting to hear back!

I wouldn't worry, I got an II and I'm a Humanities major with a science letter and a Humanities department (different from my major, albeit similar) letter.

That IS a letter from your major department 😉.

@Reptarbar I'm the one who called earlier and asked about not having a letter from a NON-science course, and they said it was fine but my app would be considered weaker.

Now as for not having a letter from your MAJOR DEPARTMENT, I would give them a call, they're quite responsive. Emails took a while for them to respond to so I would go ahead and give them a call. I doubt it would be a zero percent chance though, just your app would be considered "weaker" as they stated for me.

well i applied anyways. no reason to call anymore.

Does anyone know or anyone who has done the MMI at NYMC remember if you get to write notes down while you read each question, and bring them in to the room with you?

For those who received II already, since receiving the below status, how long did it take approximately to receive your II?

** Your Secondary Application was completed on ____________ and is currently under review. **

I never once checked my application status and I suggest you do they same to maintain sanity.

If you get an II, they WILL email you.

+1

Trying to maintain sanity by not comparing myself to every other applicant that got an II is hard but it took me about 3 weeks. As far as I know, GW is the only school that doesn't email for status changes.

Hey there, I havent posted on here in forever, I am a radiology resident on night float, kinda slow tonite so I found myself here

Anyway, I attended NYMC and did an intern year at westchester, in retrospect it was a pretty great education. I lived in sleepy hollow/Tarrytown which I thought was nice bc its a short drive to school and 30 minute express train to/from grand central which I thought was awesome. I also lived in NYC for 3rd and 4th year but times were different then we had a full service hospital in the west village that has since closed (RIP St. Vincents)

Anyway, just wanted to stress that I thought I got a great education.

I did my MPH as well, its cool having the degree but I wouldnt recommend NYMC's "combined MD/MPH program, unless they changed something there is nothing combined about it you just do them both at the same time

which stream of MPH did you do? and do you find it helpful?

is it worth doing an extra year to complete it?

For those of you that are interviewing on Monday, I realize that this is kind of last minute, but I am also an MS-I at NYMC, and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about getting here (or about the school itself) either in the forum or by PM.

In addition, I would also not recommend applying for the MD/MPH program straight away. For the record, the program has changed (new and awesome director), and many of the students in my class are very seriously considering doing the joint MD/MPH. But one of the many nice things about the program is that you can join it pretty much at any time during your first year, or at the beginning of the second year. So, there's no reason to apply right now for that until you learn more about it (or decide while you're in school that you have time to do it).

Are there cabs at 10pm Sunday at White Plains train station? I'll be coming from Grand Central and arriving around 10:15ish in White Plains. I have a student host so hopefully he'll pick me up :xf:

You should be able to get a cab at any time at the White Plains station (most cabs are 24/7). I don't know if they will be sitting there at that time of night, but you can always call for a cab. There are a number of companies in the area, but here is the number for the White Plains Taxi company: (914) 949-0054. FYI, you can get a cab at the Valhalla station as well, but the cab will probably take a couple more minutes to get there.

Any current NYMC MS have any advice on how to get there from Boston without a car? I looked into amtrak but I couldn't find much, and I'd rather not go all the way down to NYC just to go back out

MMI invite!! signed up for Oct. 15! Good luck everyone👍

This may be a dumb question, but for the secondary, if I am having a committee letter sent by my undergrad institution, do I still need to fill out this section? On the previous page, I already put the name of my school that's sending it.

Letters of Evaluation

Please indicate the names of the references from whom we can expect to receive your Letters of Evaluation. Please check the Instructions for requirements regarding Letters of Recommendation. Your file will not be considered complete until we have received all the evaluations you have listed in this section.

I'm not sure what to tell you on that since I'm from the Midwest. I guess Amtrak from Boston to New York would probably be best. I'm pretty sure that most of the med students here from the northeast region have cars are drove here.

your only real option is to leave from NYC if you don't have a car. Amtrak is really expensive. I would suggest taking the Bolt Bus instead. It's considerably cheaper.

As far as I know, GW is the only school that doesn't email for status changes.

At GW, I stopped checking my status after 3 weeks, then they emailed me an interview invite. When I went back to check my status, it just said "correspondence regarding your application has been emailed to you." This is apparently the same response for a rejection.

Take a train to Stamford, CT. then a bus to white plains and a quick cab to campus. Its pretty affordable and you avoid NYC.

does anyone know how receptive NYMC is to students asking to reschedule interviews? my interview is scheduled to take place in 6 weeks, but I do not know if I will be able to attend on that particular day anymore due to work obligations

Any sept 10 interviewees want to share their experience/ what type of questions they ask? 😀

Interview Invite right now. My first one! So exciting!!!

Complete 8/20, OOS, 3.5+/3.4+, 34S
