Does anyone have any experience with the Texas Tech Masters/Postbacc at either el paso or lubbock. I can't seem to find anyone with info. It seems pretty good b/c they gurantee an interview at PLFSOM for either that cycle or the next but i can't find anyone that's been through it unfortunately.
I've been looking through some postbacc schools since I need to take the prereqs, and came across UCLA Extension. It looks like this school offers UCLA undergrad classes with an “XL” tag, meaning there’s an undergraduate counterpart to them at UCLA.
There are also some classes that are designed...
hello,
I applied to dental school and got denied for fall 2019. My major is in biology and I have a minor in chemistry- I graduate from my undergrad in May. My gpa is 3.23 and science gpa is 2.74.
I decided to apply to Duquense University Post Bacc program and Iowa State University Master in...
Hi everyone. I’m currently finishing a postbacc, and I have about 12-15 semester units left to go, which I should be able to knock out in a year. I’m not applying 2019-2020, so I figured might as well take some more classes and do a few extra hundred hours of volunteering.
The classes I’m...
Hi there,
I am in the process of deciding between two post-bacc programs: The University of Michigan's MEDPREP program and Agnes Scott's program. I have heard more about Agnes Scott's program, as it has been around for much longer, but I do not want to discount Michigan's program because it...
Hello,
I need some advice please! So I had to switch majors from biological sciences to political science. I am a fourth year at my university. I am a first generation student.
I switched out because I could not get one class (it got full really fast) and so they kicked me out of the major. I...
Hello!
I recently submitted apps to 5-6 different SMPs, and I just got into two. The reason I'm doing an SMP is to boost my academic records during my gap year after undergrad (cGPA: 3.48, hopefully 3.55 by the time I get my bachelors; sGPA 3.3, MCAT 499). I have roughly 100 hours of shadowing...
Hello all, I'm pretty new to sdn but I really like the community and a lot of you seem to be very knowledgeable about these topics. Right now I find myself in a predicament with respect to applying to schools, and I wanted to see what my best options are. I'll just give my stats straight away...
I'm a senior pre-med student who decided to pursue a Masters degree in my first of (hopefully) two gap years due to a less-than-great undergrad GPA. I applied to a bunch of special masters type programs that are aimed at pre-med students. I've heard back from most of the schools and am trying...
Hey, I recently was accepted into both Touro Harlem MS and Touro Middletown MS, and am currently waiting to hear back from Nova for their MBS program. I wanted to know which program, you guys would do? Please feel free to post honest feedback on any of these programs.
Hi y’all! So I have a little predicament. Coming into college, I was very unsure of if I wanted to be premed but the pre-reqs for one my desired majors coincided with pre med pre-reqs. But since I didn’t really think I wanted to be pre-med and I didn’t want to unnecessarily “ruin” my GPA, I took...
Hi all,
I am writing this post today to ask for advice! Currently, I have a 2.95 GPA and I am projected to have a 3.06 GPA after this semesters DIY postbacc coursework. I took the MCAT last summer and got a 502 and am applying to masters programs right now to begin 2019-2020. I have had...
Hello SDN
Unfortunately, I did not get into any dental schools this cycle so my next move is to continue my schooling and take classes to improve my GPA because that is what bringing my application down. I am conflicted between a postbacc and a masters. I originally wanted to do a postbacc...
I live in SoCal, and it's becoming more and more obvious that I need to learn Spanish to be able to volunteer/work broadly here. I want to learn it in a classroom environment (i.e. avoid online learning), and don't want to shell out $1000 per class to learn it at a 4-year. Taking Spanish 1 and 2...
Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting in SDN forums after many years of browsing. Specifically I am posting in regards to receiving general advice on my current situation and the best route for me to apply to Medical School.
Background
I received my Undergrad degree in Biology in 2016...
So I am deciding what I should do for after I graduate my undergrad. I am getting my bachelors in biology but my overall GPA would be a 2.7. I was thinking that maybe if I did a masters program such as Public health it would be a good change and also give me a separate GPA. So far I have applied...
I'm a nontrad looking to start taking the prereqs the later half of this year. I live in SoCal so my options are limited to UCLA Extension, UCLA Concurrent Enrollment, and CSU classes. I think UCLA CE is out of the question due to cost and unreliability in getting into classes.
From what I...
Hello All,
cGPA:2.99
sGPA:2.7
MCAT: Have not taken yet
I have read Goros forum post on reinvention. I have looked though various posts and I dont know which path is best for me. Should I aim to take the MCAT this year and try to do an SMP the following year or should I do a post bacc this year...
I am trying to determine whether I need to apply to a post bac program. I am a graduating senior and my plan is to take the MCATs in September 2019. I want to work in the medical field during my 2 gap years. I have a 3.7 gpa overall, 3.98 in my psych major but only 3.48 in science GPA. I come...
Hi everyone, I urgently need advice on choosing postbac programs. I'm currently working full time at a non-profit on public health program management, but I'm planning to go to a postbac program this year to prepare myself into medical schools.
However my problem is, I used to studied...
Hi all! I’m thinking about doing a year-long post-bac and am concerned about whether I would be able to hack it in such an intensive science courseload.
I’ve always done well in school (4.0 GPA and top 3 law school) but only ever in the humanities. Most concerningly, I took gen chem and bio my...
This may be a bit of a typical, overthought premed question, but I have a question about how adcoms view careers, or a lack thereof.
I graduated with a CS degree about 2 months ago, and I haven't really been employed outside of some freelance work. I'm looking to start a career change DIY...
Hello everyone, I'm a recent graduate with a 2.6 GPA from a UC (Cali resident) and have a STEM degree. I've taken many math/CS classes, but 0 bio/chem/physics and VERY few humanities during my undergrad.
I've taken Gen Chem 1, 2 + Orgo 1, 2 so far at UCLA Extension (Chem XL 14A/B/C/D + the 2...
Hi all,
I am trying to do some research into post-bac programs to do during my gap year leading up to an MSTP application. I know about the NIH IRTA post-bac option but I was wondering if anyone on here knew of any other opportunities. I like the idea of a post-bac over lab tech or research...
Can anyone that has been accepted to a postbacc or masters with low GPAs, especially from UCSF or SFSU's postbacc program post their stats?
I have an extremely low GPA, ~2.75, pre-dental. I do however have plenty of internship/shadowing/dental-club/leadership experience that I am hoping will...
Hello,
This is my first post so please bear with me.
I received a psychology degree from a state school and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. The last year of college I decided that I wanted to enter healthcare, specifically a doctor. I had toyed with the idea before but I think I was too emotionally...
I have been a full time student and member of the National Guard for the past 4 years. Until this semester, I have been in pursuit of completing my pre-requisites for medical school. Before this semester, I was notified of a deployment that would take place shortly after the semester completed...
Let's kick this off!
I'm a current medsci and I'm willing to answer any questions you might have.
I had lower stats before applying, but I also applied twice. ugpa:3.1, mcat:500. That goes to say, things would always work out. Keep trying hard and you'll get to where you want to be!
Good luck!
Saw there was a thread for the LKSOM Post Bacc Program so thought I would start a specific thread for the College of Science and Technology program.
I see their interviews start in January so was curious to know if anyone has heard anything from them or knows much about the program.
I wasn't a pre-med in undergrad but have decided to complete a pre-med post-bac and have been accepted to both Bryn Mawr and Johns Hopkins University.
I'm utterly torn between the two. I know that both have great outcomes in terms of medical school acceptance but are very different in terms of...
I'm prepping for some interviews, thinking about how I want to spin things, and I was wondering what "strategy" I should take when discussing my very poor undergraduate performance.
I'm a nontrad applicant whose original career path was in engineering (attended one of the grade-deflated UC's)...
Hi,
I am currently a senior doing a nutritional sciences degree and was wondering if you guys could give me some opinions or advice.

I am a 20 year old URM male at a Top 20 undergrad institution. I plan on applying in next years cycle but because of my low GPA, i have been considering taking a gap year to improve my stats. Im currently sitting at a 3.4 cGPA and and 3.3sGPA, no grades under a B- just a whole lot of B's. Im...
Greetings all,
I couldn't find a thread for the 2019 - 2020 class at the Temple / LKSOM Post-Bacc program so I thought I'd start one.
Good luck to everyone applying!
Has anyone taken the prereq classes and other upper div. classes at UCLA Extension? If so, how consistently were courses like Chem 14 series, Biochem 153A/B, and upper div. bio classes offered?
It looks like chem 14 series wasn't even offered this Fall, and upper div. bio courses haven't been...
Hello,
I am very new to this forum. I am currently a junior with a major in Biology. I am trying to figure what options I have in terms of getting to medical school. I know that I have no shot of getting accepted after graduation, but I was wondering about a post-bac program? I currently have a...
Hello, everyone. I recently posted here seeking school list advice having recently (almost) completed my post-bacc, and it was incredibly helpful, so I figured I’d ask a couple of things for my parents as well. I’m posting this on behalf of my mother, who doesn’t really know anything about...
Hello! I'm new to this site so please correct me if I'm doing anything wrong.
I wanted to know (I've heard the SDN community was the place to go for these sorts of questions), with my specific situation, what exactly should I do to increase my chances (as much as possible) of getting into a...
