I did apply EDP. It was great to hear something the day after my interview. It did wonders for my stress level.

I started taking prerequisites in January of this year and took the MCAT (in June) without having completed organic chemistry, physics, or the second semester of general biology.

For me, an above average MCAT (top 10% at my state school) and academic success (all A's) taking a heavy load of prerequisites (18 hours of organic chemistry and physics in summer school) and working a demanding full-time job were big pluses. Basically, I think my commitment to a career in medicine was demonstrated by my willingness to work hard and push myself to achieve my goals.

I think my upward "trend" (from 3.0 to 4.0) post-military certainly helped. I had far fewer ECs than you'd typically see on SDN (no shadowing, no leadership, etc...) but I think my experience as a medic more than made up for that. I could write a different story for the primary and each secondary. I think most non-trads have a pretty unique story so as long as you stay true to yours and explain it with a strong confident voice you're already ahead of the game. Definitely definitely definitely. I didn't and it doesn't seem to be hurting me that bad, but if I could do it over everything would be complete on day one. Start looking at the secondaries now to get an idea of what schools are looking for and whether you have good answers to those questions. If so, awesome. If not, you have an entire year to come up with a really good one.

How did you manage to do fairly well on the MCAT without having Ochem or Physics? I mean, how did you learn the material?

Historically, I've been a strong test taker (34 ACT and 1540 SAT), so that was probably the single most important factor in doing well on the MCAT without having had Ochem or Physics.

I did have two years of calculus based physics in high-school (12+ years ago), so I studied the NOVA physics materials to brush up on my problem solving. For Ochem, I made it through about 1/2 of the ExamKracker's review book. This was a serious weakness for me as I had three Ochem passages on my MCAT.

For biology and VR, I used EK materials as well. I didn't study chemistry as I had just finished retaking the second semester of chemistry as a refresher.

I was scoring an average of 32 on my AAMC practice exams, so I decided to take a chance on the real deal so I could have my score in time to apply EDP.

After leaving engineering, I needed shadowing experience and a job. I took a position as a medical secretary for a surgeon. I made sure to do a great job there and earned some awesome letters of recommendation. Admittedly, it was humbling to go from engineer to secretary - but I found I really loved my new job and it was totally worth it.

Fourteen years as a litigator defending doctors insurers, corporations and others falsely accused of malpractice, negligence, misdeeds, misfeasance and other civil infractions against society followed by the last seven years as a coporate lawyer for a very large publically traded corporation.

This large corporation shall remain nameless and faceless for now so that I can relish the view of my boss's face when I resign in August to attend medical school. Call it shock and awe!

If my boss decided to let me go, the corporate security goons would walk me to the door without so much as a minute's delay to take my Juris Doctor diploma off the wall and clean out my desk. I, however, intend to give the company 30 days notice. Always professional - to the very end.

:thumbup: Well, I was thinking 'two weeks' when you said "very large publicly-traded corporation", but I guess your boss is worse than I thought! Sounds like your normal law firm! Well, one less lawyer with integrity...
